Dear Wakefield Forest Families,
As a school district we have recently been in the national news, shown in less than the best light. I do not believe that we were accurately or fairly displayed. It doesn’t reflect the hard work of Fairfax County Public Schools staff members and certainly not those at Wakefield Forest ES. Thank you for the many emails of support I have received; we really do have the best community. Despite the challenging situation we are in right now, I am confident that we will figure it out together.
The information sent from me will be very specific to Wakefield Forest students and families. In that vein, FCPS has communicated that assignments for in-person instruction will be based on the alphabet. This will be our start point for scheduling in-person instruction, but adjustments will need to be made. We are not going to be able to make the schedule work without making shifts, as our in-person families are very imbalanced based on the alphabet only. Additionally, in order to meet needs with a school-based AAP Program, ESOL and special education, we have to make scheduling changes. We are working on ensuring we have enough staff available to meet the virtual and in-person needs of our students, and at the same time we are working to regroup students as needed for class size. This will mean that many of the requests that were made previously for assignment in a typical school year format may not be able to be honored due to constraints of buses, programs and space. We so appreciate your understanding and patience as we work through these challenges. Our goal is to provide the best experience we can for our students in and outside of the physical building.
Wakefield Forest has a new start time for the 2020-21 school year. Our hours are scheduled to be 9:10 AM – 3:55 PM.
