FHES Summer Update: 7/13/2020

July 13 Update

Good afternoon Freedom Hill families,

I hope this message finds you well! Just a brief reminder today that the due date for parent back-to-school surveys is this Wednesday, July 15. Families have the opportunity to choose a full-time virtual learning option or the hybrid option within the school building. If you have already submitted, you can still change your survey by the due date.

These are two great videos to assist you and your family: The first video explains step by step how to complete the enrollment form. The second video provides a brief overview of what school will look like when in-person and virtual classes resume.

I know that this is a major decision for all families as we weigh the social, academic, and health factors involved. A suggestion from Dr. Brabrand offered at a recent town hall meeting is to have your child wear a mask for a full day. Knowing that all children will be required to wear masks for the entire school day in the hybrid model, this test may help you make a choice that is best for your child. Please know that your child will have a positive year no matter what choice you make, and that our teachers are excited to resume the great work of our school community!

For those who are still undecided about their choice this year, I am happy to speak with you and have scheduled some virtual "drop in" office times tomorrow afternoon and Wednesday morning. To sign up for a time slot, please use this link.

Best wishes for a great week,

Dr. Z.

2020-21 School Year Updates

The following recent details may be helpful to your family as your plan for this coming year:

Bell Schedule

The superintendent's current proposal for Freedom Hill's hybrid bell schedule is 10:05-4:50. This will be discussed at today's School Board meeting.

Hybrid Attendance Days

Students enrolled in the hybrid option will attend school 2x per week. There will be a division-wide alpha split by last name to determine days of attendance. At present, the split is A-K (T/Th); L-Z (W/F). Families with different last names will follow the schedule of the eldest child in the household.

Community Partnerships

Community Partnerships: The county is communicating with SACC and other community agencies about childcare. Information about SACC services will be forthcoming.

Professional development for regulated childcare providers and community-based organizations to support virtual and asynchronous instruction will take place before the start of school.

Facilities

Protocols and guidelines continue to be developed, including health screening questionnaires for students, staff, and visitors. A parent/guardian screening commitment form will be distributed (one time) prior to face-to-face instruction.
Additional information regarding student masks will be provided. All students above the age of 2 are required to wear a mask as of the latest communication with county officials. Please keep this in mind when making your decision.

Plexiglass is already being placed in common areas like the front office. Additional plexiglass will be placed in classrooms and other learning environments as available and needed.

Specials are being discussed as to whether they will support a push-in model, take place in classrooms, or be virtual. Transitions between classrooms are allowed, and will occur, if needed. Safety precautions and directives will be in place to support these transitions.

Technology

All students who require a laptop for virtual learning will be provided with a device.
