SENT EARLIER in the WEEK

Dear Edison Families,

Dr. Brabrand will be sending out a reminder communication about the reopening of schools. There are many unknowns making the decision to go online versus in-person challenging.  Many of the details (Parent FAQ), both in design and delivery of either choice are much dependent on total course enrollment:  Reopening of Schools Plan.

If no response is given from a family, the default is in-person for the school year.

Current answers and links to key questions you might have are as follows:  (Translations are available on links.)

  • Online students will be in online classes Tuesday-Friday for all periods of the regular school day.  The structure is not the same as it was in the spring as the classes will be full day and resemble that of the normal school day.  Attendance will be required, assignments will be graded, and online teachers will work with their colleagues to align pacing and learning expectations.
  • In-person students will have asynchronous learning expectations on the other two days that they are not face to face in school.  These learning objectives and assignments will likely be equivalent to the class time they would have attended that day.  Should a temporary closure or quarantine need to occur, we would plan to fluidly move these students and their in-person teaching environment to an online environment for the same periods of time during the school closure/quarantine.
  • Mondays are reserved for teacher planning, office hours and intervention (virtual), and collaborative team meetings.  This planning time will be critical as it will ensure that online teachers are able to meet and pace with their face-to-face colleagues.
  • As much as possible, we will try to utilize our existing staff to meet the needs of our students.  This may not entirely work, but every effort will be made.
  • Not all electives may be available in an online or in-person environment based on course enrollment and student preferences.
  • We are working out the details of sanitation, hallway changes, bathroom and lunchroom use.  We have a detailed building map that will be used as a guide once we have our course enrollment totals.
  • We are unsure as to how transportation and scheduling of Academy courses will work to other Academy sites.  We plan to offer Edison Academy courses; however, we do not know which ones at this time.

Most of the specific details of next year are based on student enrollment and student needs, the current health landscape and forecast at the time of reopening, and our ability to fulfill teacher and staff requests and accommodations.
