Dear Beech Tree Families,
Last week our PTA hosted a Zoom Family Meeting so I could answer questions you might have about the two options for school choice. The Justice Pyramid Principals also hosted two bilingual Town Halls to discuss the options for school choice. Families have a choice of in-school learning for students with health and social distancing protocols in place or an online, virtual learning option at the family’s request. Families will need to decide by July 10th if they will enroll their child for in-person or online learning for the coming 2020-2021 school year. It is very important that all families complete this enrollment form for each child in FCPS so that schools can ensure adequate staffing for online and in-person classes.
In addition, FCPS Superintendent Scott S. Brabrand, Assistant Superintendent for Instructional Services Sloan Presidio, and director of the office of special education procedural support Jane Strong will host a virtual Town Hall on Monday, July 6, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. View the livestream on fcps.edu/tv/ch99 or Channel 99 (Verizon, 11). Ask questions before or during the forum by emailing ReturntoSchool@fcps.edu or calling 1-800-231-6359 (during the forum). Questions will be answered about the Return to School options for the 2020-21 school year. A Spanish language virtual town hall will be held on Wednesday, July 8, at 6:30 p.m. on Facebook en espanol, featuring Dr. Brabrand and other FCPS officials.
During our PTA meeting families shared concern for Beech Tree staff and asked about their preferences. I conducted a school-based survey and these are the current and unofficial results of that survey: 19 out of 29 instructional staff prefer to teach virtually during this time. As always, Beech Tree staff will keep our students first, as we analyze the official results submitted to FCPS, as we create classes for the 2020-2021 school year.

Continuation of Learning: Summer 2020
- Begins on Monday, June 29
- K-8 language arts and math workbooks will be mailed to families prior to Monday, June 29th.
- The workbooks will be organized in "sections" so that teachers can communicate which pages/lessons might be focused on for that specific week's office hours.
- Answer guides will also be posted digitally to support teachers and parents.
- Both Math and LA will target essential skills and concepts that review 2019-2020 grade level curriculum and focus on independent student practice.
- Supplemental ESOL workbooks will be developed for ELP levels 1 and 2 to focus on English language development.
