WAKEFIELD FOREST ES Message from the Principal

Dear Wakefield Forest Families,

As Dr. Brabrand communicated on Friday, June 26, 2020 families will have two options for instruction for the 2020-2021 school year. Families need to designate their choice by July 10, 2020. If no response is received, the default is for students to participate in the in-person instruction. We will be working to schedule siblings who attend in person on the same days of the week to support family planning. I know that you are being faced with a difficult choice, and at the same time may still have many questions that we do not have the answers to right now. Please know that whatever you choose, we will work diligently to support you and your child.

As we plan for the 2020-21 school year, we would like to consider constructive feedback from our families on the distance learning implemented during spring 2020. Many changes are already planned for the fall, including smaller class sizes and increased direct instruction. Please complete the attached survey by July 17, 2020 if you would like to provide feedback.

As more information becomes available about next school year, we will share that as soon as possible.

Thank you.

Sharyn Prindle
Principal

Wakefield Forest ES was recognized for continuous improvement based on performance during the 2018-19 school year.

Mental Wellness Consultation 2020
The FCPS Office of Intervention and Prevention Services will continue to offer mental wellness consultations throughout the summer. If you have concerns about your child’s well-being or if your child would like to speak with a school psychologist or school social worker, please request a consultation. Our FCPS mental health providers are available to help families get needed support through a 45-minute phone consultation or through secure video conferencing. Appointments are open to all FCPS families.

Consultations are offered in two ways:
• Directly to parents of students in any grade level. This consultation provides an opportunity for parents to receive guidance on how to support their child’s social-emotional, behavioral, or academic functioning. Information about community resources will also be made available.

We encourage parents to take advantage of this service. Click here to request a consultation. You may also leave us a message at 571-423-4276.

Registration
If you have a student to register for next year, or know someone who does, please scan a copy of all required documents to our School Registrar, Ms. Holmes, at KSHolmes@fcps.edu. Original documents will need to be shown prior to the start of the school year, but we can begin processing this information from scanned documents. Early registration for next year is important as it supports the number of teachers for which we are staffed. Information on required registration documents can be found here: https://www.fcps.edu/registration

Not returning to WFES for SY 20-21?
For membership and staffing purposes, we would like to hear from families who are not returning to Wakefield Forest in August for the 20-21 school year. If your children (K-5) will not be attending WFES in the fall, please email Ms. Holmes directly at KSHolmes@fcps.edu and let her know.
