Summer Update - June 26, 2020

Reading & Math Summer Resources

Summer workbooks are about to arrive for all our FCPS students. They focus on mathematics and literacy skills taught during the 2019-2020 school year. Students can choose to use these workbooks to review content recently learned.

We know that all children benefit from continuing to reading and practice math skills over the summer.  Students are at risk of losing learning that was gained during the school year. With parent encouragement and access to books, however, students can continue their progress throughout the summer.  We have created a document of Reading and Math resources which are available over the summer.

We have also created helpful suggestions for family members: "What to do with your child while they read?"

Summer Grab and Go Food Distribution

Summer Grab and Go Food Distribution will continue through June 30. Breakfast and Lunch are available from 9:15-9:45 at Daniels Run ES and other specified locations. The list of locations is available online.

Updated information regarding the Grab and Go Food distribution for July and August will be announced in late June.

Summer Book Mobile

You are invited to our Summer Book Mobile on Wednesday, July 15th from  1-3 pm at Daniels Run main entrance.  Come and say hello and grab some books to read for the summer.

School Counselors, Psychologists, and Social Workers Are Available During the Summer

The FCPS Office of Intervention and Prevention Services will continue to offer mental wellness consultations throughout the summer. If you have concerns about your child’s well-being or if your child would like to speak with a school psychologist or school social worker, please request a consultation.  Our FCPS mental health providers are available to help families get needed support through a 45-minute phone consultation or through secure video conferencing. Appointments are open to all FCPS families.

Consultations are offered in two ways:

  • Directly to parents of students in any grade level. This consultation provides an opportunity for parents to receive guidance on how to support their child’s social-emotional, behavioral, or academic functioning. Information about community resources will also be made available.
  • Directly to students in middle or high school. This consultation provides support and strategies to students who may be experiencing difficulties with anxiety, mood, behavior, or peer or family interactions; as well as academic challenges such as organization, time-management, or adjusting to a new school.

We encourage parents to take advantage of this service. Click here to request a consultation. You may also leave us a message at 571-423-4276.
