A typed parent/guardian name on the Parent Signature line is acceptable.  Student ID Number may be left blank.  Save the completed form, attach it to an email and send to alrodriguez@fcps.edu

Kindergarten Registration

If you need to register your new Kindergarten student for the next school year, contact Ann Rodriguez, school registrar, at alrodriguez@fcps.edu.  She will assist you with the registration process.

Yearbooks

We are still waiting for information from Lifetouch to find out when the Yearbooks will be made available and how they will be distributed to our families. We will update you all when we learn more.

Library Updates

Summer Reading 2020

We’ve got two great programs to keep your family reading all summer.

Hunt Valley ES is asking you to read 24 Hours and share your Five Favorites.  Fairfax County Public Library is asking you to Imagine Your Story – sign up starts today.  Participate in one or participate in two.  Just be sure to read, read, read!

To get more information, check out this video recording from your book loving teachers, Mrs. Covey (reading specialist) and Mrs. Bartlett (librarian) that explains the summer reading programs.  We’ve got a Google Classroom ready with resources including tracking information, eBooks, audio books, and book recommendations!  All we need is YOU!  Be sure to join our HVES Summer Reading Google Classroom using your fcpsschools.net account, click the plus in the upper left corner, and enter the code shbq66m.

The tracking sheets should be returned by August 31st.

If you have any questions, please reach out to your book loving teachers at crbartlett@fcps.edu or agcovey@fcps.edu.

If you find books over the summer, you may bring them by HVES or return to Irving when we return to school.

A note from Irving Middle School librarians -

Rising Irving MS 7th Graders,

We invite you to participate in Irving Middle School’s Summer READ! Program.

Here’s how you can participate:

  1. Click on the READ! Choice Board and choose a challenge that appeals to you.
  2. Complete the READ! Challenge.
  3. Write a short reflection about what you read on this Google Form.
  4. Repeat Steps 1-3! 😊

For every READ! Choice Board challenge that you finish and write about in the Google Form, your name is entered into a raffle.  The more things you read, the more entries you have to win prizes.  The maximum number of entries being 25!

Prizes will be distributed and grade-level top readers will be announced at the beginning of the 2020-2021 school year.

The READ! Program runs from June 12, 2020 until August 24th, 2020.

If you have questions about the READ! Choice Board options, or need recommendations for book titles, please email both Irving MS librarians: (Ms. Monk) mamonk1@fcps.edu and (Mrs. Gawalt) dlgawalt@fcps.edu  We will try to respond quickly to your questions, even throughout the summer months.

Please remember that you have several options for obtaining reading material during the summer.

  • The Fairfax County Public Library branches are allowing users to place books on hold and then drive by for curbside pick-up when the books are ready.
  • Additionally, ebooks and audiobooks are available to all FCPS students through the Mackinvia.com website.  Here are complete instructions for accessing digital resources through MackinVIA.
  • You may choose to purchase some titles or swap books (safely) with friends.

Have a great summer everyone!
Mr. Fee
