Renaming of Lee High School:

Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) is resuming the community engagement process on the proposal to rename Lee High School. The process was put on hold once the Governor ordered schools closed for the remainder of the year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Before schools were closed, FCPS held a community meeting on March 11 to collect community input on changing the name of the school. Participants were also invited to submit suggestions for a new name. Comments were also sent to FCPS via email. All of the feedback has been posted online.

FCPS is resuming the process and will hold a public hearing on June 22, 2020. The public hearing will be held virtually to adhere to public health guidelines which recommend social distancing to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Monday, June 22             Public Hearing  at  4:00 p.m.

Anyone who wishes to speak at the public hearing is invited to sign up to speak. Information on citizen participation.

Community members can also share their input by emailing comments to Region3admin@fcps.edu.

On Tuesday, June 23, the School Board will take action on whether or not to change the name of the school at its regular business meeting. If the School Board approves the action, the Superintendent will bring a recommendation to the School Board on a new name(s) for the school as a New Business item at the June 23 meeting. If the School Board does not approve action to change the name of the school, the process will end.

We invite you to participate in the public hearing to provide your input. We will keep you updated throughout the process. Information about the renaming process is also available online.

Sincerely,

Nardos King, Ed.D.
Assistant Superintendent
Region 3
