Dear Beech Tree Families,
Last week, our staff celebrated our students’ hard work and dedication. I am so proud of our students and staff for remaining positive and engaged throughout our Distance Learning experience. While we may not know exactly what the future holds for us, at least we know that the partnership that exists between our school and parent community will always remain strong. I will do my best to keep you informed during the summer months. Please take time to enjoy the sunshine and outdoor fun!
On Friday, June 12th, we bid farewell to our retirees Ms. Diane Day and Ms. Judi Fouse. They have shown so much love and dedication to our students and while we will miss them greatly, we also wish them health, sunshine, and happiness! Ms. Ileana Rios has transferred to an FCPS school that will shorten her commute, and allow her to serve as an Advanced Academic Resource Teacher. Ms. Emma Caradine-Taber and Ms. Holly Mitchell are exploring other professional experiences outside of education and we wish them joy in their future endeavors. Do not worry. Our virtual existence did not stop me from interviewing and welcoming new members to our Beech Tree Family. We will continue to be fully-staffed with the best teachers in FCPS!
As a reminder, this summer, virtual resources will be available on Blackboard 24-7. More information is available on the following link: https://www.fcps.edu/academics/summer-learning. Language Arts and Math review workbooks, as well as ESOL workbooks for ELD levels 1 & 2 will be sent home by June 29th. The Beech Tree staff listed in the chart below will be available to provide office hours through Blackboard Collaborate Ultra or Google Classroom from Monday, June 29 - Friday, July 31. Please see the chart below for their names, emails, and available office hours. Students should monitor their school email for upcoming information from their Summer Learning teachers.
Please remind students of Student Rights & Responsibility regarding technology use. Students may ONLY log on and participate in virtual learning with their assigned teachers. It is during these learning opportunities that they are able to be monitored by an FCPS staff member. Both laptop and technology use are for educational use ONLY. Donations for 5th grade t-shirts
Our PTA was able to quickly put together 5th grade End of Year t-shirts for all our 5th grade students. We usually have more time to collect payments from parents of 5th graders. Parents, community members and staff have pitched in to help with some of the cost. Should you wish to make a donation towards the t-shirts, this address should be entered on PayPal in order for you to give a donation towards the cost of the t-shirts: donatebeechtreepta@gmail.com
“Kindergarten Registration!”
Please let your neighbors know that Kindergarten Registration has continued, thanks to our incredible Mrs. Do! If they have a child who will be five on or before September 30, 2020, please have them contact Mrs. Susan Do, Beech Tree Registrar, at sndo@fcps.eduto make arrangements for specific enrollment information.
Continuation of Learning: Summer 2020
- Begins on Monday, June 29
- K-8 language arts and math workbooks will be mailed to families prior to Monday, June 29th.
- The workbooks will be organized in "sections" so that teachers can communicate which pages/lessons might be focused on for that specific week's office hours.
- Answer guides will also be posted digitally to support teachers and parents.
- Both Math and LA will target essential skills and concepts that review 2019-2020 grade level curriculum and focus on independent student practice.
- Supplemental ESOL workbooks will be developed for ELP levels 1 and 2 to focus on English language development.
FCPS Summer Enrichment Program
Fairfax County Public Schools will offer a free online arts enrichment program for current K-12 students over for five weeks from July 6 to August 7. A variety of classes will be offered in art, music, theater, and dance.

Every class is taught by a licensed FCPS teacher in a fun and supportive environment. The site is already online with class descriptions posted. Most classes will require a few supplies or an instrument; this information will be included in the class description. Each week a new activity with a demonstration video and directions will be posted online. Families are encouraged to come back each week to see what is new.
