An important letter has been sent via eNotify regarding Continuity of Learning opportunities for all students this summer. Please let us know if you have any questions.

Student Item Pickup and School Item Return

While we tried our very best to make sure everything was accounted for while cleaning out over 2000 lockers, it seems there are some items that may have been misplaced. If you were the recipient of a tan coat, a red bag, a set of locker shelves, a Ravenclaw scarf, or a knee brace that did not belong to you, please email Cindy Conley - caconley1@fcps.edu.

Also - if you did not pick up your items during Locker Item pick up OR you have school items to return please also email Cindy Conley - caconley1@fcps.edu and we will arrange a day and time to meet up at school. All items left after June 26 will be recycled, donated, and/or placed in the trash.

Irving MS’ Summer READ! Program

We invite all rising 7th and 8th grade students to participate in Irving MS’s Summer READ! Program.

Here’s how you can participate:

  1. Click on the READ! Choice Board and choose a challenge that appeals to you.
  2. Complete the READ! Challenge.
  3. Write a short reflection about what you read on this Google Form.
  4. Repeat Steps 1-3! 😊

For every READ! Choice Board challenge that you finish and write about in the Google Form, your name is entered into a raffle.  The more things you read, the more entries you have to win prizes.  Prizes will be distributed and grade-level top readers will be announced at the beginning of the 2020-2021 school year.  The READ! Program runs from June 12, 2020 until August 24th, 2020.

If you have questions about the READ! Choice Board options, or need recommendations for book titles, please email both Irving MS librarians: (Ms. Monk) mamonk1@fcps.edu and (Mrs. Gawalt) dlgawalt@fcps.edu  We will try to respond quickly to your questions, even throughout the summer months.

Please remember that you have several options for obtaining reading material during the summer.

  • The Fairfax County Public Library branches are allowing users to place books on hold and then drive by for curbside pick-up when the books are ready.
  • Additionally, ebooks and audiobooks are available to all FCPS students through the Mackinvia.com website.  Here are complete instructions for accessing digital resources through Mackinvia
  • You may choose to purchase some titles or swap books (safely) with friends.

Irving Middle School CONTINUES to be a Grab and Go location

Irving Middle School continues to be one of the Grab and Go locations through at least June 30. We are serving breakfast and lunch from 10:00 am - 1:00 pm. You may pick up both breakfast and lunch at the same time.  Meals are free to all students and $2.00 for adults and distributed Monday - Friday.

Do you have a concern about your child’s mental wellness?

FCPS school psychologists and school social workers are here to help. Any FCPS parent may schedule a 30-minute phone consultation with a school psychologist or school social worker who in most instances works at your child's school. Please click here to learn more and request a consultation.

VIP

VIP camp is going virtual this summer!  The After School Specialists at all FCPS middle schools are hosting an exciting virtual summer camp in partnership with Neighborhood and Community Services.  Rising 7th, 8th, and 9th graders in the Lake Braddock, Robinson, South County, West Springfield, and Woodson pyramids are invited to join our camp.  The camp will run from 9 am to 3 pm Mondays through Thursdays from June 29th to July 30th.  Our camp will consist of a mixture of synchronous (live) and asynchronous (self-guided/recorded) activities, and include program offerings in the areas of art, basketball, cooking, debate, drama, fitness, STEAM, trivia, yoga, etc. There is no cost associated with the camp, but we are requesting that all campers be registered by Friday, June 19th so we can be efficient in our planning and staffing.  Please use the link below to register your child.
