Waples Mill Updates 6/12

Good Afternoon Waples Mill Families,

Thank you for another wonderful (and last!) week of distance learning for the 2019-2020 school year! We appreciate all you have done to support our Waples Mill students and staff this school year and during this challenging time. We look forward to our continued partnership with all families returning to Waples Mill next school year! We will continue to keep you updated as information becomes available regarding the start of school in the fall.

Congratulations to our 6th grade students for all they have accomplished during their time at Waples Mill. We are so proud of you and we wish you the very best in middle school and beyond!

Here are this week’s updates:

Summer Continuity of Learning

Waples Mill will continue to provide distance learning opportunities for students throughout the summer. Your students will have access to skill practice through the iReady digital lessons. These lessons are available through the FCPS public Universal Screener website . Students will need to enter their FCPS login credentials to access these resources. These digital activities will be available until Friday, July 31st.

Additionally, during the summer we will be providing an optional opportunity for Continuity of Learning between June 29-July 31.  All students have access to this support, which includes centrally created resources and school-based virtual office hours. There will be one teacher per grade level, an ESOL teacher, and a Special Education teacher.

Students currently in grades K-6 will receive both a Mathematics and a Language Arts Essentials Summer Practice Book in the mail by the end of June. Digital versions of the books will also be posted on the Continuity of Learning Blackboard page. These books will provide recommended practice activities for students to review essential content from the 2019-2020 school year; they are not intended to preview content from next year’s grade level but rather reinforce essential learning from this past year.

As students access these activities from June 29 to July 31, they will have the opportunity to attend one virtual office hour each week with one of our own outstanding staff members. The schedule is as follows:

Kindergarten: Wednesdays from 10:00-11:00

Grade 1: Thursdays from 10:00-11:00

Grade 2: Wednesdays from 10:00-11:00

Grade 3: Wednesdays from 10:00-11:00

Grade 4: Wednesdays from 9:00-10:00

Grade 5: Wednesdays from 11:00-12:00

Grade 6: Thursdays from 9:00-10:00

Special Education: Tuesdays from 10:00-11:00

English Language Development: Tuesdays from 11:00-12:00
