CRES End of School Year Information

Hello Centre Ridge family-

Well the last 10 weeks certainly have been different then anything we could have anticipated. I truly appreciate all of your hard work and patience as we navigated through Distance Learning this spring. I am writing to you as a wrap up for the 2019-2020 school year and provide some information and reminders for this week.

I also recognize that as we move into the summer there is still a tremendous amount of uncertainty for next year, I am hopeful that we will be able to meet face to face with the students. If so, we all will be so excited to see their beautiful faces, if not then we will continue to develop instruction to meet their needs virtually.

Last Day of Class

The last day of class is this Thursday, June 11. Teachers will be meeting with students for the last time on this day.

Summer Continuity of Learning

This summer, all students in Fairfax County, in Grades K-6, will receive summer workbooks in reading and mathematics. These workbooks should arrive prior to June 29. Summer Continuity of Learning will take place from June 29-July 31. Students will be able to access a teacher for office hours to ask questions about workbook information. Beginning next week students will receive a Blackboard link in their FCPS Gmail to access the Office Hours session. Office hours for CRES will be as follows:

Wednesdays July 1,8,15, 22 and 29

Grades Kinder and 1        9-10:00AM

Grades 2-3                       10-11:00AM

Grades 4/5/6                     11:00 AM -12:00 PM

We will follow up later this month with more details

iREADY during summer Your students will have access to skill practice through the iReady digital lessons through the FCPS public Universal Screener website. Students will need to enter their FCPS login credentials to access these resources. These digital activities will be available until Friday, July 31st.

6th grade celebration

We will be celebrating our 6th graders on Thursday, June 11 from 11:30-1:00.  At this time 6th graders can return materials- books, instruments, patrol belts and laptops. They also will receive their promotion certificate and a goodie bag. We will miss them so much!

Yearbooks

The yearbooks are in processing, but we do not anticipate them being delivered before the end of July. Once they arrive, we will send out a procedure for picking them up. Thank you for your patience.

Food Distribution

Food distribution will continue throughout the summer. The staff will be outside Door 5 between 10-1:00 Monday-Friday.

As we move into the summer, I also know that continuing our discussions with our students about race and equity are important. We will be planning this summer about how we have these discussions next year in classrooms and as a staff. We also will be looking closely at analyzing our own blind spots and perspectives as a staff. I have included some resources that might help in having discussions with your student this summer.

Take care
