Message from Principal Magliola
Dear Jackson Students and Families,
As we approach our final week of instruction with our students, I can't help but reflect on the year we have had and the various positives we have experienced as a community. While it was not a traditional year by any stretch of the imagination, we have come together to support each other in so many important ways. I can’t thank everyone enough for your endless hours of volunteering, chaperoning, reading, organizing, donating and doing whatever was necessary to support students—both at home and at school. Thank you!
Our staff will be spending our final sessions with our students this week and we realize our end of the year has arrived without the annual traditions we look forward to sharing as a school. In my final newsletter of this school year next week, I will share my final reflection of the year, as well as provide information for yearbook pickup which will also serve as an opportunity for us to wish our 8th grade students the best in their next chapter and connect with our 7th graders before they return for the next year. Please stay on the lookout for that information as I know many of you are wondering when yearbooks will be distributed.
On Friday, Dr. Brabrand assembled all FCPS leaders and principals to discuss how we as schools will address racism and hate. We know public education occupies a unique place in our society and cannot ignore the current reality that students look to educators for clarity, understanding and empathy. However, we are not without our own challenges as a school community. We must confront and challenge our own biases when it comes to who can and does achieve. We must guard against collective complacency and act with fierce urgency in our pursuit of equity. Tomorrow morning during our 9 am staff meeting, our staff will engage in a brief discussion around our commitment to action, continued work, and mindfulness to student success at Luther Jackson Middle School.
I invite all members of our community to join me for a town hall meeting on June 10th from 7 pm - 8 pm to discuss how we as a staff will continue to establish inclusive and reflective practices at LJMS in order to ensure all students feel safe and welcome. Use the link below to join.

Student Item Pick-Up
We had two very successful days of getting items back to students this past week. Due to end of the year activities and planning, I will be providing an update to the next pick-up day in the summer. All items will be safely stored in our building until the next pick-up day. If you were unable to make it to retrieve your items, please be on the lookout for the next opportunity in June.
