Summer Learning

Summer Reading Challenge

This summer we encourage each Robinson student, including rising 7th graders, to read ONE BOOK of your choice.

How can you participate? Visit the Summer Reading Challenge website from the Robinson Secondary School Library, download the choice board, read a great book, and complete one short reflection for each book you read.

How can you extend this challenge?

We encourage you to read all summer! Let the choice board guide you to select great books, genres, or various formats, and challenge yourself.

READ

Download the Choice Board created by Robinson Librarians for reading options. Set a goal and…

  • Read at least ONE BOOK, and perhaps...
  • Create your own challenge, set a goal, and READ all summer! Examples might include:
    • Read any 5 books from the choice board
    • Read a book each week of the summer
    • Read a book from every square

REFLECT

After reading each book, complete a short reflection form.

DEADLINE & PRIZES

This challenge begins on Friday, June 12 and ends Monday, August 24. All students who participate will be entered to win grade level raffle prizes!  The more you read, the greater your chances of winning!

Counselors' Corner

Welcome to Counselors’ Corner:  an occasional tip sheet from the Robinson Middle School Office of Student Services

SW Spotlight

By Kristen Licciardo

According to Mary Jo Davis, our FCPS Coordinator of Social Work Services, social worker’s practice and passion is built on the foundational ethical principles of challenging social injustice,  respecting the inherent dignity and worth of the person, and helping people in need to address social problems.  We condemn the violence against African Americans and the systemic racism that is pervasive throughout our society.  As school social workers, our role is more critical than ever to challenge the inequities and to make sure all voices are both heard and respected.

Please review this New York Times article (June 3, 2020) that discusses how to talk to children about racism and offers multiple book ideas and resources for parents.
