Lanier Families,
We have made it to the final week of the year and I would like to provide the details as to how we plan to end new instruction on June 5th and proceed with distance learning from June 8th to June 12th. The final day of distance learning for all students for 2019-2020 will be June 12th.
My hope is to help us all be on the same page as we enter the final week of our year. To avoid any confusion, please see below bulleted information below.
- Today, June 5th concluded "new instruction" or "new assignments" provided to students
-
Instrument Drop Off on June 9th from 9-11:45am. Please sign up, if you haven't done so via SignUpGenius
-
Final Locker Pick Up/Drop Off on June 11th from 8-Noon. Please sign up, if you haven't done so via SignUpGenius
- For the week of June 8-12, we will continue to hold our regular distance learning schedule and provide review/closing activities (no new instruction) to our students through office hours and live sessions for connections
- Students will have until June 11th, at 5pm to turn in any missing assignments without penalty to their teachers
- Team Awards for students will be presented in their TA class on Thursday, June 11th. Team and School-Wide Awards Videos will also be posted on the Lanier Website at that time
- For some amazing summer resources your students, see Summer Learning Opportunities for Lanier Students
As we end our school year and reflect upon all of the challenges we have faced this year, on behalf of Lanier staff, I would like to say thank you to our PTA and community for your continued support and dedication to our students during this school year. While most of our interactions are now happening in a virtual or digital platform it is good to know that our Lanier staff and school community are joined in effort as we conclude our school year and begin to think about what next school year might look like. Please join me in extending a very big thank you to our students and teachers who have overwhelmingly participated during distance learning this year. Through a united and combined approach, we have seen our attendance and participation increase each week of distance learning. We have some of the highest percentages of attendance in Region 5, in no small part to your support. Hats off to you all!
We will SOAR together,
Tammy Hanna

We Are Living Through History
When looking back at big moments in history it is always critical to ask who’s story was told? Who’s voice was shared? What perspective is this from? What bias did the author have? When the books are written about 2020, Smithsonian Libraries will be here to collect them.
In the meantime, we want to hear from you. We want to collect and empower the youth voice.
If you are between the ages of 2-22, please share your particular perspective with the Smithsonian Libraries on what it’s like living through this history.
For the question prompts and how to send in your stories see below or please visit: Library.si.edu/education
We are collecting now through July 4th. Thanks! How to Submit: Please respond to one or more of the questions below, grab an adult if you need assistance. Send in your response to SILEducation@si.edu by July 4th, subject line "Living Through History". Let us know which question(s) you are answering, your age, and city and state. Thank you for sharing your voice!
- How have recent events in 2020* shaped your view of the world?
- What have you realized about your own perspective or privilege because of recent events in 2020?*
- What changes will you make, or want to see in the world after these events/because of these events*?
- What are your thoughts/feelings/observations about this moment of living through history?
*Recent events in 2020 could refer to Covid-19, quarantine, unjustified violence, protests—anything that is shaping your world right now and will be documented in the future as key moments in history.

FCPS Mental Wellness Consultation Service
With the governor’s order that Virginia schools remain closed as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, FCPS has resources available to meet the academic, social, and emotional needs of students.
Beginning Monday, March 30, 2020, any FCPS parent may schedule a 30-minute phone consultation with a school psychologist or school social worker, for either themselves or their middle or high school student. This consultation provides an opportunity for parents to receive guidance on how to support their student’s emotional well-being during their time away from school. Student consultations will provide support and strategies to students who may be experiencing difficulties with anxiety, mood, behavior, or peer or family interactions during this unprecedented and challenging time. Information about community resources will also be made available. To schedule a phone consultation, parents should click the following link: https://forms.gle/WKchwGnv4LkezQwG8.
This service is not intended for mental health emergencies. If an emergency is suspected or indicated, please call 911. Additionally, students and families can access mental health support if there is a crisis of emergency during the time of the closure.
