Community Message - Assistant Principal named

welcome

Poplar Tree Families and Students,

Please help me welcome our new Assistant Principal, Carol Larsen.

Mrs. Larsen has 28 years of experience as an educator with Fairfax County public schools, most recently as an Assistant Principal at Stone Middle School.  She is a proud graduate of Chantilly High School and James Madison University.  Mrs. Larsen earned two master’s degrees from George Mason University in Special Education and Supervision and Administration.  Formerly, Miss Geltz, she is excited to return to Poplar Tree Elementary where she started her career.  Over the years, Mrs. Larsen is especially proud of her work supporting students and their families with special needs.  With her extensive experiences and knowledge of special education programs, her colleagues, staff and families repeatedly looked to her for support and guidance.  At Stone, she established and led the attendance team which successfully collaborated to significantly reduce the rate of chronic absenteeism.  Mrs. Larsen has extensive training in Adaptive Schools and Cognitive Coaching and is known for her work within schools and at the county level in facilitating productive discussions that help teams align their work to best meet student needs.  Mrs. Larsen was a nominee for Outstanding First Year Principal in 2008 and named the Outstanding Westfield Pyramid Principal in 2017.  Mrs. Larsen resides in Centreville with her husband, Lee, who teaches general music and chorus at Rolling Valley Elementary, rising 8th grade daughter, Jackie, and their dog, Lucky.

I look forward to working with Mrs. Larsen and know she will have a positive impact on our school community!

Take care,

Sue Andujar, Principal
