Justice Newsletter - May 31, 2020

“For last year’s words belong to last year’s language, and next year’s words await another voice. To make an end is to make a beginning.” ~ T.S. Eliot

A Note from Principal Eck

Dear Justice Families,

We had a little over 200 seniors pick up their caps and gowns on Friday. Thank you to our wonderful staff for volunteering their time. On Monday, we will make it happen for the rest of our seniors.

We have two weeks left of school for our underclassmen. Please encourage your child to continue to attend classes regularly and submit assignments. Our teachers are working hard planning engaging lessons and creating meaningful assignments. We want to make sure that students are at their best preparedness levels. As a reminder, this summer there are multiple learning opportunities for students. In addition to credit recovery and the online campus, FCPS will offer free continuity of learning (CoL) for all K-12 students. A variety of self-directed print and online materials will be available. For the latest information regarding CoL, please click here.

As always, please feel free to reach out to me with questions or concerns.

Convocation

We are hosting a virtual Convocation (Senior Awards) celebration on June 8th at 2:00 pm. During the celebration, scholarships awardees will be recognized for their accomplishments. The entire class of 2020 is invited to this event and counselors will communicate directly with the families of the students who are slated to receive an award at Convocation. Seniors will receive their individual unique link through their fcpsschools.net email address 24 hours in advance of the event. We are limited in the number of participants who can attend the BBCU session and ask that students and parents view our program on one device per household. Please fill out the Convocation RSVP Form only if you would like to attend the event and are a parent who is not living in the same household as your senior. A recording of the session will be available for those who are not able to attend the live virtual celebration. If you have any questions, please contact your child’s counselor.

Senior Virtual Graduation and Celebration

Senior Virtual Graduation and Celebration - In addition to the cap & gown graduation photo opportunity, we are excited to announce the production of our Class of 2020 Virtual Graduation and Celebration Video. The video will be live streamed on July 2nd at 6:00pm on YouTube (link will be provided once created), as well as Channel 21. The purpose of this video is to celebrate our Seniors, acknowledge their achievement of earning their high school diploma, and create a keepsake memory for them.  The format of this video will be a hybrid between a traditional graduation ceremony and a celebration of our Seniors’ accomplishments.

Photos Due June 12: This virtual celebration will be compiled by our partners, Marching Orders and Stage Clips. Students will receive an email from these organizations detailing how to upload a photo and video clip. They must upload their information by Friday, June 12. If your student prefers that we use their yearbook photo, they must indicate their wishes to participate, by filling out this form from their FCPS account by Friday, June 12 in order to be included in the virtual celebration.

Senior Transcripts

Through the Senior Survey process, seniors indicated which college they will be attending and where Justice HS will send their final transcript. Final transcripts will be sent to colleges the week of June 8th. Seniors will receive an unofficial copy of their transcript along with their diploma during the scheduled photo opportunity appointments June 16-18.

Final Grades

Final Grades will be available in SIS on Friday, June 12th. The Grade Book and Report Card modules in ParentVUE and StudentVUE will be closed Friday, June 19 at 4:00 p.m. Report Cards will be mailed centrally. Parents/Guardians may opt into “Go Paperless” for report cards by logging into ParentVUE, then going to “My Account” and selecting "Go Paperless!". This is the only way to keep a paper report card from being generated for students at the secondary level. All parents who share the same address as the student must have a SIS ParentVUE account and must select the paperless option. Please contact your child’s teacher if you would like to discuss any grading concerns.

Course Verification

All student course requests can be accessed through the SIS Parent Account. Please review these selected courses carefully with your child and should you find any errors, by Friday, June 5 please contact your child’s counselor by email or a signed and dated note explaining the error and how it should be corrected.

Intention for Next School Year Form

We need your help projecting our total enrollment for next school year. For families NOT returning to Justice High School in the fall of 2020-21, please complete and return the “Student’s Intention for the Next School Year” form by Friday, June 5. Access the “Student’s Intention for the Next School Year” on the FCPS public website: https://www.fcps.edu/registration/forms#intention-form. Underclassmen materials pick-up/drop-off

To prepare for underclassmen’s last day of distance learning on June 12, we have designated the following drop-off/pick-up days:

Families with more than one Justice HS student will only need to come to the school on one date.

Essential items for drop off include textbooks and library books. Students may keep their laptop and any musical instruments over the summer unless they will not be returning to Justice next year. We will have any items retrieved from lockers or classrooms bagged for pick up. All students who completed this Google Form received an email with their appointment date and time, a required health questionnaire, and information on drop-off/pick-up procedures. Students who have not yet completed the Google Form should do so by Friday, June 5. If you have any questions, please email Michelle Campiglia, Assistant Principal, at mrcampiglia@fcps.edu.

Student Services Weekly Programming

For the final Wellness Wednesday lesson of the year, the counselors are holding a session on “Letting Go Without Closure” to give students strategies as the school year comes to an end. While the Future Friday sessions were originally slated to end on May 29th, the Student Services team just had a hard time letting go so they have planned one final wrap up lesson to help juniors know what to focus on over the summer to prep for the college application process. Students will need to register for our upcoming Future Friday Sessions through the Future Friday Registration Form. Registration will close at 5pm the day before the session. Links to the session will be sent to students the night before the session. More information and recent lessons can be found on the counselor’s Google Classroom page.
