Weekly Update from Irving MS

Thank you, families, for making signs for our teachers – they really brighten their day as they come back to clean out their classrooms.

Student Item Pickup and School Item Return is June 1-5!

Families will drive through the bus loop to pick up items and drop off school items at stations (see below). Very Important - to help ensure a smooth drive through the stations, please have your child’s first and last name & grade in big writing, visible in the front window of your car.

This pickup/dropoff will happen curbside and there will be no contact with school personnel. Directions and signs will be posted - please follow the signs to help with the flow of traffic and ensure each family is able to collect/drop off all items at their designated time. Please see the schedule below for each students’ day/time for pickup/dropoff.  We will be giving back 1136 students their items back and collecting items as well, we ask that you only come to school during your designated time so our staff can keep the flow of traffic moving.  If you cannot come on your designated day/time we ask that you wait until Friday to come to the school. Thank you for your understanding!

Station 1 - Medication Pickup

Station 2 - Ordered Yearbook Pickup - limited number of yearbooks still available for $25

Station 3 - School Item Drop Off -

  • Please return school textbooks, library books, instruments, calculators, and any other school items (please note - laptops do NOT need to be returned at this time).
  • If you have a school owned computer, drop off for devices will be at a later date. More Communication will be sent directly to families with computers.

Station 4: Locker Items Pickup - student’s locker items will be given in bags to include items from PE, Hall, and Band/Orchestra lockers

Do you have a concern about your child’s mental wellness?

FCPS school psychologists and school social workers are here to help. Any FCPS parent may schedule a 30-minute phone consultation with a school psychologist or school social worker who in most instances works at your child's school. Please click here to learn more and request a consultation.

Library News

As you can read above, we are ready to receive our Irving library books next week, when students come to pick up their locker items and drop off other things.  Please take a minute to carefully look at the back of the library books in your home to make sure that you’re returning Irving books to us, and not Fairfax County Public Library books.  Our books have barcodes on the back that run parallel to the book’s spine.  The barcode will say, “Fairfax County Public Schools,” and there will be additional labeling and stamping that says, “Irving Middle School Library.”   While we aren’t going to chuck any FCPL books that happen to get returned, we don’t have space to store them, and they’ll not get cleared from your FCPL account for a very long time if they get turned in to us at the school!  Thank you for taking the extra time to look over books before returning them.

The Irving Library will continue to host book talks through the end of the school year.  Anyone who wants to talk about books that they’ve read are welcome to join in any Thursday afternoon, from 3 pm until 4 pm through Blackboard Collaborate Ultra.

Looking for something for your child to read or listen to? We have updated our selection with new titles! Click below for information on accessing free ebooks and audiobooks and for a listing of the Irving librarians’ office hours:
