Hayfield Earns National Recognition as a No Place For Hate school!

We are proud to announce Hayfield has been designated No Place For Hate by the Anti-Defamation League! In November, staff and students signed the pledge to combat bias and bullying and make Hayfield no place for hate. Then, in February, the No Place For Hate Committee asked students to share what it means to be a good friend. We created a banner made up of the thoughts of students to show our Hawk Pride. Although we were unable to complete the remainder of our planned events in 2019-2020 due to COVID-19, the committee is busy planning events for school year 2020-2021. If you or a student you know would be interested in joining us, please let Jaime Alvis know, Coordinator of No Place For Hate and School Counselor at Hayfield, at jsalvis@fcps.edu!

Flex Lesson- Interviewing Skills

This week’s flex video from Student Services highlights interviewing skills. Student Services, in conjunction with a member of the GMU Career Services department, provides an overview of tips and tricks to effective interviewing: https://youtu.be/gVmBCDQPjsY. Follow the “Hayfield CareerCenter” YouTube channel (www.youtube.com/hayfieldcareercenter) for upcoming flex lessons and college/career information. After watching this short video, we challenge you to set up a mock interview with a friend or family member to put those skills into practice. Happy practicing!

I’m Determined Summit

The I’m Determined project, a state-directed project funded by the Virginia Department of Education, focuses on providing direct instruction, models, and opportunities to practice skills associated with self-determined behavior. This project facilitates youth, especially those with disabilities to undertake a measure of control in their lives, helping to set and steer the course rather than remaining the silent passenger. Virginia youth with disabilities are encouraged to attend their virtual summit during the week of June 8-12. Sessions will focus on Virginia resources for students with disabilities and their parents. For more information and to register, go to: https://www.imdetermined.org/.
