Memorial Day

Dear Families,

Welcome back to FCPS News You Choose! I am delighted to share that we are returning to our previous interface as it links directly to our school website. As access to information and transparency continues to be an imperative, returning to this communication management system ensures all stakeholders, current and new, can be updated on a frequent basis.

To this end, we have reviewed all email addresses that have been receiving our eNotify broadcasts; these addresses are those found in our Student Information System (SIS). We have cross-referenced these addresses with this platform. If you are not receiving our twice-weekly newsletters, you may need to contact Shirley Eason to update your email address in SIS. In addition, you may want to update your preferences in FCPS News You Choose. Don't forget to save your preferences before you close your browser. More information on how to maintain communication with our school, as well as other subscriptions in which you can opt-in, can be found here.

Once again, I look forward to continuing our history of clear and consistent communication. It is a joy to write to you each week and a sincere privilege to connect with our community through this newsletter.

Finally, I hope you are each having an amazing weekend with your families. Tomorrow, I hope you are able to take a moment to reflect, remember, and honor those who died in service to our country. Have a wonderful Memorial Day, and see you soon at our distribution of student materials his week.

Warmly,

Dr. Jennifer Hertzberg, Principal

Distribution of Student Materials: May 29th

A-M

The opportunity to pick up student personal belongings will be available for DRIVE-THRU SERVICE ONLY on Friday, May 29th. Items have been packed and labeled with your child’s name. You may also use this as an opportunity to return borrowed school items such as library books, patrol belts, classroom books, instruments, and other miscellaneous materials. Please keep in mind that our aim is to move through this pick-up process as quickly as possible and to keep the line moving. Together, we can make this happen if you adhere to the pick-up schedule located on the gym and cafeteria diagram pictured above (A-M only) and linked below (A-M and N-Z).

For everyone’s safety, please follow these DRIVE-THRU instructions:

  1. Last names beginning with letters A-M will follow these directions and times for pick up near the GYM.
  2. Last names beginning with letters N-Z will follow these directions and times for pick up near the CAFETERIA.
  3. Please do not exit your car.
  4. Place a paper sign with your child’s full name on a large piece of paper, and display it on your window as you drive up to the designated pick-up location. Please write in big, black, bold letters. If you have multiple children, listing at least two children will suffice. While it is not common, we do have students with the same names, and we want to make sure you receive the correct belongings.
  5. You will drive up to the “Parent Pick-up" sign.
  6. A staff member will walk your child’s belongings to your car. From inside your car, please open the back window or trunk. Staff will place the bag(s) in your car.
  7. Return items to the designated area listed on the diagram.

Thank you for your cooperation! If you are unable to pick up items on Friday, May 29th, we will hold items until the last day of school for students, June 11th. Please complete this form if you require us to hold onto your child's belongings for pick-up at a later date.

Imagine Math

Tech Talk

Has your child logged-on to Imagine Math? We are noticing the progress of our students as they continue to access Imagine Math and Imagine Math Facts. These programs are found on our Learning Links page on our website, underneath math sites. Don't forget that in order to log-on, your child must use their student I.D. for the username and password. The site code is 5101260. This program is available now, during the summer, and will be used in the fall. We can't wait to introduce more capabilities of the program! We are so excited about the performance tasks as they relate to real-world problem solving and inquiry-based instruction--two hallmarks of our learning program at Flint Hill!

Thinking

Thinking2

Did your child miss an opportunity to join one of our Friday classes? We will be hosting another thinking-to-a-higher-level class this Friday, May 29th! It will be hosted a bit earlier, at 11:45 am, and end at 12:30 pm, in order to accommodate our student belonging retrieval process. Please use this link to access the course. (*The course will not open until precisely 11:45 am. These unique BBCU links work a bit differently.)

If you missed a previous session, you can find the materials you need here:

Session 1

Session 2

If you want to take a look at our community Flipgrid, "Flint Hill Family Matters," these learning opportunities, as well as previous topics, are placed here. Each week, we are noticing more students are attending, and we hope to see your child at the next session! It is inspiring to observe K-6 students together, each student engaged and participating at their own pace and skill level!

Our school psychologist, Melissa Peeples, shared this resource on Twitter, and we think it is a great reminder for parents and caretakers alike!

Kindergarten Registration

Kindergarten registration is upon us! We welcome parents of rising kindergarten students to register their child at their earliest convenience. This helps us get acquainted with our new students and allows us to have our numbers so we can best staff our kindergarten classrooms. Please don't hesitate to share this information with a neighbor, friend, or colleague who lives within our boundaries. We want to ensure we get students registered as early as possible!

Recognizing employees who go above and beyond

Supporting Our Families

Thank you to our families who have so generously contributed to those in need. If you know someone who is facing hardship, please reach out to administration, or Amy Williams, our full-time school counselor, so that we can help you or a neighbor.
