Student Materials Pick-Up

On May 28 & 29, 2020, we will be conducting a curbside pick-up of your child's personal belongings that were left in the building during the school closure. Classroom teachers have bagged up all of your child’s materials and labeled them for you. Grade levels will distribute materials via drive-by, curbside pick-up in the bus loop and Kiss and Ride lane to maintain safe social distancing.

When you pull up, a staff member will bring a bag with your child's belongings out to your car.

During this time, please plan to return any items that belong to the school such as:

  • library books
  • patrol belts
  • instruments (students in grade 6, students moving, and those not continuing in band/strings next year)
  • classroom materials

Laptops that are checked out to students will be returned at a later time.
If you have more than one child, you can pick up all students' materials at the same time.  Please send one email to all your children’s teachers indicating which grade level slot you will be joining, and staff will group your materials together to expedite the pickup process.

If you would rather have your child's items (folders, notebooks, etc.) discarded or donated to the school as a reusable item, it would be helpful if you could indicate that by emailing your child’s teacher.

If you are unable to pick up materials on May 28 & 29, 2020, please email your child's teacher(s) and Cindy Morris at eemorris@fcps.edu to make alternate arrangements.

K-2 Laptop Distribution

FCPS is now expanding laptop distribution to grades K-2.  Forestdale will distribute to laptops to kindergarteners through second graders in need on Wednesday, May 27.  Due to limited supply, laptops are available only for those without a device (tablet or computer) at home and are limited to one per family.  Families who received a laptop during grades 3-6 distribution will not be eligible for a laptop during this round.

Teachers are working to contact families in need of laptops to arrange appointments for pick-up; feel free to email your teacher to set up an appointment time if you have not yet connected.  Families who come in for laptop distribution will also receive the student materials for all children in the family on Wednesday; therefore, there will be no need to return on Thursday or Friday.

K-6 Registration is Underway!

If you or a neighbor is planning to enroll in Forestdale Elementary next year, we need to hear from you!

We are now accepting registrations for all grade levels for the 2020 - 2021 school year. With the current school closure, registration is virtual at this time.

Forestdale's Got Talent

Our Annual Talent Show is Going Virtual!

One of the very special traditions at Forestdale is our end-of-year talent show held on the last day of school.  This year, the tradition continues…. in a new format!  Our aannual talent show will be held virtually on June 11, 2020.  The talent show is open to any Forestdale Elementary School students, families, and faculty. Students are welcome to perform alone, with a sibling, or with their parents. Talent acts must be tasteful, appropriate, and abide by school and county rules. Talents can be anything from singing, dancing, or playing an instrument to magic tricks, juggling, karate, art projects or displays, stand-up comedy, or any other talent.

We will be holding virtual auditions for the talent show. How, you might ask? Click on this link to upload your talents via photo or video. Submissions will be reviewed by the talent show committee and talent will be reviewed with a rubric based on preparedness, quality, and virtual stage presence.  Talent should be submitted no later than June 2, 2020. Parents of children who have been selected for the talent show will be notified via email. The talent show will be viewed by students and parents on an unlisted YouTube link.  Only those with access to the link will be able to view the video.

Please send any questions you might have to Melanie Cruse, music teacher, at mlcruse@fcps.edu or Ashley Parham, special education teacher, at arparham@fcps.edu.

Thank you for helping us continue this important and joyful Forestdale tradition.  We miss you and cannot wait to see your talents!

Virtual Promotion Ceremonies

Another Forestdale tradition is our end of year promotion ceremonies!  Virtual promotion ceremonies will be held for all grades on June 11, 2020 during regularly scheduled virtual instruction hours.  Recordings will be posted and shared for viewing afterwards.  While we will not be able to proceed with an awards ceremony this year due to COVID closure, we look forward to celebrating our incredible students and promoting them to the next grade!  Stay tuned for more details; teachers will share more information in the coming weeks.
