Waples Mill Updates 5/22

Good Afternoon Waples Mill Families,

Thank you for another great week of distance learning! Here are this week's updates:

FCPS Closed May 25 - Memorial Day Holiday

All FCPS schools and offices will be closed on Monday, May 25, for the Memorial Day holiday. Synchronous sessions will resume on Tuesday, May 26.

Pick-Up of Student Items

The Waples Mill staff has been hard at work packing up classrooms and identifiable student items from the school year. They have been collecting and bagging up items from student desks, classroom cubbies, etc. Please understand that during this process, some unmarked items may not be able to be identified as belonging to a specific student.

We will be hosting a Vehicle Curbside Pickup of these items during the first week of June (details and a schedule will be forthcoming). There will also be an opportunity for Waples Mill library books and patrol belts to be dropped off.

If you do not wish to retrieve your child’s classroom items at all, please fill out the following this Google Form to let us know. Please note that by filling out this form, your student’s items will not be available for pick-up. Any remaining items will be donated or discarded.

Office Hours for Strings Students

If your child is in 4th, 5th, or 6th grades and has participated in strings this year, they will now have the opportunity to go to virtual strings office hours beginning next week.  This optional opportunity will occur weekly on Thursdays and will be at the same time as other specialists' office hours (4th grade, 1:30-2:00 and 5th-6th grade, 2:00-2:30).  Students will access this office hours session by clicking on the button called "Specials Office Hours" on their grade-level Blackboard site.

2020-2021 Optional Class Placement Survey

As we determine class placements for the upcoming school year, please know that it is a collaborative process involving the teachers and specialists who work with your child. This team effort is performed with great care. It is our intention to place each student in an environment appropriate to his or her academic, social and emotional development. If you would like to share any additional information about your child that their current teacher may not be aware of, please go to our school website at https://waplesmilles.fcps.edu/ then click on the 2020-21 Optional Class Placement Survey. We carefully consider parent input, but ask that you not request specific teachers. Requests for specific teachers cannot be honored.

Completion of this form is optional. Please return the completed form by clicking the submit button no later than Tuesday, May 26. Thank you.
