Orange Hunt News We HOOT

A message from your Principals

Dear Families,

Our Orange Hunt staff is working hard this week and next to pack-up classrooms. While at school, staff members have collected and bagged up all items from student desks, classroom cubbies, and around the room. Please understand that during this process, some unmarked items may not have been able to be identified as belonging to a particular student.

We will be hosting the required contactless vehicle drive-thru pick up of these items by grade level.  If you have multiple children at Orange Hunt, you will only need to go through the drive-through once. Choose one of your child’s assigned grade level times, and you will be able to retrieve and/or drop off items for all your children at that time. Please see the schedule and map below:

  • Kindergarten and 1st Grade – Tuesday, June 2, 2020 (10 a.m. – 12 p.m.)
  • 2nd Grade and 3rd Grade - Tuesday, June 2, 2020 (1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.)
  • 4th Grade and 5th Grade - Wednesday, June 3, 2020 (1 p.m. - 3 p.m.)
  • 6th Grade – Thursday, June 4, 2020 (1 p.m. – 3 p.m.)

At this time, you will only be able to pick up your child’s belongings and drop items off. Items for drop-off include library books and take-home reading books from classrooms (please sort and place in Ziplock bags with your child’s name and the teacher’s name on the bag and label “library” or “classroom.” If you have more than one child, please make a separate Ziplock labeled bags for them.  We will collect patrol belts (Ziplock with student name), and instruments from 6th graders and students who are moving.

With the COVID-19 shutdown, yearbooks will be delayed by the company in getting them to us.  They will not arrive until July.  At that time, we will send information on how you will receive them. Therefore, they will not be in your child’s bag at pick-up.

To keep us all safe during this time, the pick-up of items will be contactless. Please follow the protocols listed below to ensure the safety of all students, families, and staff.

  1. You will need to use your vehicle for pick up. Please do not walk to the school to get your child(ren)’s items. If you need to walk, please contact the school to arrange another day for item pick-up.
  2. Enter the school parking lot and follow the Kiss ‘N Ride line by making a right from Sydenstricker Rd. into the parking lot. For safety reasons, we ask that you not make the left-hand turn from Sydenstricker Rd.
  1. Pull into the Kiss-and-Ride loop and stop at the sign labeled, “Check-In” near Door 6. Please stay in your car. There will be a staff member with a walkie-talkie. Have a sheet of paper with each child’s last name, first name, and grade level on your dashboard. This will be helpful as you make your way through the pick-up line. We will also ask for you to roll down your passenger window and give your child(ren)’s name, grade, and teacher name to that staff member.
  2. Pull your car down to the Kiss-and-Ride door (Door 7). There will be a sign labeled “Drop-Off.” There will be a cart for library book drop off, a box for take-home reading drop off, a box for classroom library books (please ensure that the teacher’s name is written in the book), a bin for patrol belts at this door, and instruments from 6th graders and students who are moving. There will also be a staff member present to remove the things from your trunk. Please make sure all items are marked clearly that need to come out of your trunk. The staff member will shut your trunk.
  3. Proceed forward through the line and make a sharp right-hand turn into the bus loop. The Sign will say, “Turn Right.”
  4. Drive around to the front of the school towards the main entrance (Door 1). Pull up to the next sign labeled “Item Pick-Up.” Your child(ren)’s items will be placed in your trunk by a staff member. Do not get out of your car. Please unlock your trunk or open it remotely for the staff member. Prior to coming to the pick-up, be sure that the trunk has room for the items.

Finally, teachers will continue to provide synchronous instruction and virtual office hours during this process. If your family is moving and will be leaving the area prior to the end of the school year, please contact Lesley Akofio-Hite, our registrar, at laakofiohite@fcps.edu  to coordinate an earlier pick-up and start the transfer process.

Have a safe and healthy week,

Mrs. Tuttle, Mrs. Austin, and Dr. Tempel-Milner

Student Registration

Schools remain closed to families; however, if you have a rising kindergartner or other new student to register, we would like to do a preliminary registration now.  If you know of any families that would be new to Orange Hunt (that have rising kindergartners or students in grades 1-6), please forward this information to them.  Early registration for next year is important as it supports the number of teachers for which we are staffed.

To register your child for school, please email laakofiohite@fcps.edu with “Registration” in the subject line.  If you are able to fill out the registration packet online, save it to your device, and attach it to the email to send back to us, that is the preferred option.  If you are not able to do that, please let us know when you might be available for a phone interview.

After we receive your email, we will reach out with any additional questions. If you have any questions or concerns about registration, please contact Lesley Akofio-Hite, our registrar, at laakofiohite@fcps.edu.
