Virginia Governor's School Acceptances

Please congratulate our students who were accepted to this summer's Virginia Governor's Schools (to be held virtually this year). 

Governor’s School is a challenging and enriching Virginia program designed for highly motivated students who are looking for a challenging summer experience. Programs are offered in Visual and Performing Arts, Humanities, Math/Science/Tech, Agriculture, Life Science/Medicine, World Languages, and Mentorships in Engineering and Life Sciences. The selection process is extremely competitive. Most students selected rank in the top 10% of their class and have scored in the 90th percentile on standardized measures of ability or achievement tests. These residential programs usually run from late June to late July.

JEA Virginia Journalist of the Year Winner

Congratulations to Emma Andreas for earning third place in the JEA Virginia Journalist of the Year competition! Emma is the first student to earn a ranking in the yearbook category. Go Hawks! 

 


Spring Latin Awards

This year's Spring Latin competitions haven't stopped - just moved virtually! Congratulations to all the Hayfield Latin Students from this spring's competitions.

Level 2 team – 2nd place on Competitive Division!

National Latin Exam

Exam info: Given to thousands of kids nationally and internationally. Students can earn perfect scores, gold medals, silver medals, magna cum laude, and cum laude awards based on their score. It tests grammar, reading comprehension, literature, history, mythology, and ancient geography.

Exam info: Also given to thousands of kids nationally and internationally. Awards are only given to students who earned a 90% or above (Gold 100%, Silver 99-98%, Bronze 90-94%).

Classical Association of Virginia Latin Tournament

Exam info: A highly competitive state test focused explicitly on grammar and reading comprehension. Students competed in the Alpha (public school) Division.

Placements 1-3 are given only to the top 3 students in each division, along with select honorable mentions.
