Happy Saturday WPHS Families!

I hope you all are safe and enjoying this mini burst of summer weather this weekend.  I would like to update you on a few things:

  • Student Locker Item Pick Up
  • Summer Learning/Laptops
  • Virtual Principal Class Meetings
  • Quarantine can’t stop Wolverine Creativity

Student Locker Item Pick Up

We have spent this past week opening lockers, cleaning them out and organizing student belongings found in the lockers.

If you had belongings in a Quander, Gunston or Springbank locker you will be emailed directly to your fcpsschools.net accounts. If you do not get an email, we did not find anything in your locker.  If you had belongings in a gym locker you will not receive an email, you will have to come to the school on the designated pick up days (below) to identify your belongings.

There were only 176 lockers total across all locations with items in them.  The vast majority of lockers were empty.

Curbside Drop Off / Pick Up (social distancing guidance requires you stay in your car or if you are walking stand at least 6 ft apart).

You will be able to drop off any textbooks that you may have and pick up any of your locker items on Wednesday May 27th and Friday May 29th between the hours of 9:00am-2: 00pm.

Please refer to the attached map for guidance for drop off and pick up.

All textbooks will be dropped off at Door 14, Quander and Gunston (including the gym lockers) Locker Item Pick Up will be at Door 2 (cafeteria patio) and all Springbank Locker Items will be picked up at Door 4A in the junior parking lot.

Summer Learning/Laptops

You may have read the letter sent yesterday by FCPS regarding summer learning.  West Potomac will be offering a compliment of virtual summer learning to include credit recovery for students who have failed a course, continuity of learning for identified students who have passed a course but still may need additional supports to prepare for next year, and some identified rising 9th graders who will be taking advanced courses for the first time next year.  FCPS will be offering summer learning for second language learners and some special education students.  FCPS will also offer optional materials for a self- directed summer continuity of learning that will help students practice their skills and retain knowledge for a smoother transition to next year.  As a result, all 9-11th grade students will keep their laptops for the summer.

Virtual Principal Class Meetings

I will be hosting Virtual Class Meetings through BbCU next week starting with the Class of 2020 on Tuesday at 3 pm followed by the Class of 2023 on Wednesday at 3pm, the Class of 2021 on Thursday at 3pm, and lastly the Class of 2022 on Friday at 3 pm.  Please follow this link https://docs.google.com/document/d/14dI5uHCLjsh6YCZtomIbVkhc5AI8zuVqK5lxalcUUWo/edit?usp=sharing for directions to log into the meeting.  You will also receive information from your class sponsors to submit questions to a google form.
