Forestville Updates & Important Info

In this newsletter:

Message from Mr. Washington

The staff and I hope that the consistency that we have experienced the past couple of weeks has reinforced a daily routine that supports you and your children’s needs. More importantly, we hope that you are witnessing your child’s engagement and productivity as a testament to the academic progress that can be made, even while using a new and modified platform for instruction and learning.

If you tuned into the School Board meeting this past Monday, you observed the critical thinking and ideas that our county is weighing at this time in order to make substantive decisions that will impact your child’s return to school. As soon as we are made aware of how these changes will impact our community, we will share these findings with you.

Additionally, over these next couple of weeks we will be sharing how Forestville will be providing opportunities for you to retrieve your child’s personal belongings (should this be something you’re interested in doing), pick-up medication, and drop-off instruments/library books. We are working on a process that will be supportive of your needs and our staff (as they continue to instruct your children while these procedures are being implemented) while keeping in mind the health, safety and well-being of all parties involved.

I appreciate you, your partnership and your support with distance learning, during this difficult time.

Student Item Retrieval and Opt-Out Option
(for all grades)

Our teachers will be packing up student items within their classrooms over the next few weeks. This will include items such as: student work, pencil pouches, lunch boxes, etc. Teachers will be placing student items in a labeled bag for families to pick up at a later date.

We will also go through our Lost and Found items and add items that are labeled with names to these bags as well. All non-labeled lost and found belongings will be donated to a local charity.

If you would like to forego retrieval of student items (they will be donated to the school or a local charity), please complete this opt out form, Student Item Retrieval Opt-Out. Only fill out this form if you are OPTING OUT OF retrieving your student's belongings from Forestville Elementary. If we don't hear from you, we will assume you will pick up items. The pick-up information will be communicated to you at a later date.

If you have more than one child, please complete a separate form for EACH student.

Medication Pickup

Additionally, if your child has medication here at school that you would like to pick up, please provide us with the following information so that we can have that ready for you as well on our school’s distribution day. In order to receive it, will we need you to sign off on your child’s Medication Intake Form, that you are taking the medication.

Please complete the following form, if you would like to pick up your child’s medication, Medication Pick up Form.

Class Placement Parent Input (all grades)

Our staff will soon begin working collaboratively to plan teacher and student assignments for the upcoming school year. We would like to provide you with the opportunity to share your insights about your child through our google form, Parent Input Form

Please complete the fill-able form and submit. The information will go directly to Mr. Washington and will be shared with teachers during the placement process.

Please note:

  • All comments should be positive. These forms will be shared with school staff as we work to create class groupings.
  • Due to constant changes in personnel, we will not accept requests for specific teachers; this includes hints that reference specific teachers.
  • While it’s helpful to share names of your child’s friends, remember that assigning a child to be with all of their friends cannot be our highest priority. Classes will be constructed for instructional purposes and every class will have a blend of children with diverse needs, personalities, and learning abilities.
  • The deadline for any correspondence regarding the upcoming school year is Friday, May 29.

Our staff will use this information to work on tentative class groupings in June, with classroom assignments finalized in late August as the school year approaches. Please submit the electronic form no later than Friday, May 29. Due to the tight timeline before school is out, late submissions cannot be considered.

Progress Reports (all grades)

Third quarter progress reports are currently visible in ParentVUE and StudentVUE.

The county anticipates the printed progress reports will be provided to the postal service by May 23rd. Actual delivery to homes will be dependent on the postal service. School addresses will be used as the return address on the report cards. To gain access to student progress reports in a timely manner, ParentVUE and StudentVUE are recommended.

Kindergarten Registration and Virtual Orientation Information

As you are aware, due to the COVID-19 health crisis, all FCPS schools and offices are closed through the end of this academic school year.  At this point in time we do not have a date staff will be returning to school, however, processes are in place for parents to register their child for kindergarten at Forestville for the upcoming school year.

If you or anyone you know, has a child who will be five by September 30, 2020, please direct them to our school website where they will find the information for how to register during this time so that we can get them information as soon as possible.

Children who are five by September 30, 2020 are eligible to enter kindergarten for the 2020-2021 school year. Registration details are available on our FES website at: https://forestvillees.fcps.edu/new-student-registration-2020-21. Visit the Kindergarten Registration page on the FCPS Kindergarten Registration website  for required registration packets.

Once your child’s registration forms have been received by our school registrar, you will be kept updated with any pertinent information. After visiting the websites, if you have any questions or concerns, please contact our school registrar, Ms. Huong Tran at httran2@fcps.edu.

For those who were not able to join in on our virtual Kindergarten orientation that took place on May 8th, please find the following recording on the online orientation that will provide you with the information that was covered last week: Forestville Kindergarten Orientation - recording_1.
