Dear Colvin Run families,

On behalf of all of the teachers and staff at Colvin Run, we would like to extend our sincere thanks to PTO President Erin Mascatello, PTO Board, and all of the families of Colvin Run, for making Teacher & Staff Appreciation Week so special for our teachers and staff.

We have begun planning to show our appreciation to our cafeteria, front office, SACC, and custodial staff the week of May 26-29. More to come on ways to say thank you to these essential staff who help make CRES such a wonderful place.

- Mr. Junge and Mr. Soderstrom

CRES Student Placement-Parent Input Survey 2020-2021 (All Grades)

It’s hard to believe we are already thinking about next year, however the end of the school year will be here before we know it. As we start planning for next year, if you would like to provide input to be referenced during class placement, please complete this OPTIONAL survey regarding your child's learning environment by Friday, May 29th. This form provides an opportunity for parents to provide input the school will reference as we position your child for continued academic success. Class placements are decided using a myriad of factors, so it MAY NOT be possible to honor all below information. By the end of the school year, your child's classroom teacher has worked hard to place your child into a class for next year and they will reference your input while completing class placements. Click here to access this OPTONAL survey.

Kindergarten Orientation, May 19th 2:00 p.m.- SAVE THE DATE (Kindergarten only)

We will have a live virtual Kindergarten Orientation on Tuesday, May 19th at 2:00 p.m.  Parents should click this link to access this virtual kindergarten orientation where you will hear Mr. Junge, Mr. Soderstrom, and Kindergarten teachers provide an overview regarding the learning opportunities your child will have at CRES and answer questions.

Kindergarten Registration (Kindergarten only)

If you or anyone you know, has a child who will be 5 years old by September 30, 2020, please let us know, so we can help you register them as soon as possible.

Children who are 5 years old by September 30, 2020 are eligible to enter kindergarten for the 2020-2021 school year.  Registration details are available on our CRES website:  https://colvinrunes.fcps.edu/new-student-registration-2020-21.  If you have not completed this form, please complete it to be added to our distribution list for upcoming information and events.

Visit the Kindergarten Registration page on the FCPS Kindergarten Registration website for required registration packets.

Once your child’s registration forms have been received by our school registrar, you will be kept updated with any pertinent information regarding Kindergarten 2020-2021.

At this point in time we do not have a date staff will be returning to school, however, processes are in place for parents to register their child for kindergarten at CRES for the upcoming school year.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact our school registrar, Kerry Henry.

Classroom Belongings Pick-up - Stay Tuned (All Grades)

Our teachers are preparing to return student belongings and pack up our classrooms for the summer.  As we prepare to return your child's belongings to them, please take time to gather any classroom books, Library books, or other school-related items we will need back.  We will be organizing times for contactless pick-up of your child's belongings after Memorial Day.  Stay tuned as we finalize dates and a Sign-up Genius for you to schedule time to pick up and drop off items at school.

All instruments will be collected AFTER school dismisses in June.  Please keep practicing them.

Progress Reports (All Grades)

Third quarter progress reports are currently visible in ParentVUE using your SIS parent credentials.

The county anticipates the printed progress reports will be provided to the postal service by May 23rd. Actual delivery to homes will be dependent on the postal service. School addresses will be used as the return address on the report cards.   To gain access to student progress reports in a timely manner, ParentVUE is recommended.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month  (All Grades)

May is National Mental Health Awareness month. Many students struggle with emotional and behavioral issues that can affect their learning and overall wellness. FCPS wants all parents and guardians to know that your school psychologist, school social worker, and school counselor are available for consultation and support on concerns such as anxiety, peer relationships, depression or other social and emotional issues. They can also provide a list of mental health resources.

Please contact your child’s teacher or school counselor to connect with one of the mental health providers. Please click here to learn about resources and ways to support Mental Health and Resiliency, and Student Wellness: Tips and Strategies with your child.
