PRINCIPAL DAUGHERTY

Dear Beech Tree Parents,

Happy Mother’s Day! I’m so glad it was a beautiful sunny day for us to enjoy. I hope your day was made special by your family and friends!

Last Thursday, our staff had another Trivia Night. They are so good! They’re quick, too! Also, our Beech Tree PTA held an election and then parents had the opportunity to ask me questions about distance learning and considerations for next year. As FCPS Leadership and the School Board consider a combination of options, they will also follow directives from the Governor and VDOE, once those are decided. I’d like to thank our PTA for supporting our teachers while also supporting local establishments that are owned and run by Beech Tree families, and others who support our PTA throughout the year. Last week’s PTA Raffle Winners were:

Monday = Anthony’s Gift Card = Ms. Do

Tuesday = DC Steakholder Gift Card = Ms. Chon

Wednesday = Chick-Fil-A Gift Card = Ms. Chouay

Thursday = Anthony’s Gift Card = Ms. O’Connor

Friday = Paisonos Gift Card = Ms. Cooper

Thank you all for your generosity and for the many ways in which you let our staff know how much you and your children appreciate them! Your constant support of us through Field Trips, Mini-grants, Breakfasts, Luncheons, Dessert Bars, and Evening Events is always much appreciated and makes Beech Tree a special place! We look forward to supporting you when we are able to hold our Fun Fair again!

Last week, two of our teachers were interviewed. Our “Outstanding Teacher of the Year,” Ileana Rios, and our “Outstanding First Year Teacher of the Year,” Claudia Romeo, were asked about their experience and support of students during our COVID-19 Closure.  Both interviews can be found on my Twitter feed, which you can also access through our school website. I am incredibly proud of our staff and our community. While some people across the nation have allowed disappointments to create divisions, our Beech Tree school community has closed ranks and persevered. I hope you will always know that we do not take your trust for granted.

On Friday, principals received some guidance on how our schools may proceed with the packing up of classrooms, to include student belongings. We expect to receive further clarifications this week about certain questions my colleagues and I had. I have ordered large paper bags and colored labels for teachers to place students’ personal belongings in, such as school supplies, their jacket, personal books, etc. The labels will read: Grade Level, Teacher Name, Student Name. Teachers need to be able to remove those materials from the classrooms prior to putting away instructional materials and their own personal belongings. I’ve ordered some boxes and expect a few more to arrive in the coming weeks from the division’s large scale order. I’d like to give some time for those additional boxes to arrive before I invite staff to come in small groups, during non-distance learning times. School is still in session, and we will continue to honor our commitment to you and your children. Once we begin the packing up of classrooms, I will share further information about the picking up of student items, which will be done through assigned times through the Kiss & Ride Loop. In the meantime, please continue to join our staff on-line. They are so happy to see your children and engage them in learning! When students are happy, teachers are happy. When they’re both happy, I’m happy 😉

I wish you a wonderful, productive week! As always, thank you for your trust. Let me know if you ever have any questions or concerns.
