Last Saturday, the Saxon Stage would have been wowing the Langley community with the closing performance of its spring production, Guys and Dolls.

To mark the evening, the cast, crew and musicians gathered instead on Google Meet for a singalong of a few hits from the show and to share their memories.

Ms. Karasek, Theatre Director of the Saxon Stage, surprised the group with a video tribute prepared of footage and photos taken during rehearsals before March. Take a look, and you’ll get a glimpse of all the work that goes into stage productions and what a great show it would have been!

Great news! T he deadline to order your Shire yearbook is extended to Jun 1 . Given the school closure, students will appreciate this important memento even more. Click here to order and use Langley's school code 4159 . Act fast, as only 275 copies remain!

AP Testing Reminders

As many students prepare for AP Testing at home, it is important to take time this week to ensure they are ready for this year's exams. The 2020 AP Testing schedule begins on Monday, May 11.  Please take a moment to review the important information below shared by College Board and FCPS:

Langley Library has put together a guide for supplemental reading and virtual resources for you to explore while you are at home. You can find the link for the guide here  (https://langleyhs-fcps.libguides.com/c.php?g=1023738) as well as on the Langley website under the Library tab or the Library Blackboard page under Announcements. We are also available to help anyone in the Langley community with reading suggestions. Just email us at klortiz@fcps.edu or paclark@fcps.edu. Just remember to Keep Calm and Read On!

Social worker and psychologist:   Langley’s social worker Catherine Kennedy and psychologist Anna Davis recently created a Google classroom where Saxons can access stress management resources . They’ve posted activities and several links. Students can assess the classroom from their FCPS Gmail accounts here , and using code buh6s76 . Students also can set up individual appointments with either staff member from their FCPS Gmail using this link .

Parents can set up phone appointments as well, either for themselves or their student, using this FCPS form . The parent consultations are intended to help parents support their student's emotional well-being, and the student consultations are intended to help students having a hard time with anxiety, mood, behavior, or peer or family interactions. (In an emergency, please call 911 or access mental health support online ).

Parents and students also can email Ms. Davis at adavis3@fcps.edu and Ms. Kennedy at cskennedy@fcps.edu .

National History Day

Two Langley projects earned victories at the Virginia state contest. Their successes are the culmination of a year of hard work, dedicated research, and true historical thinking.

  1. STATE CHAMPION! First Place!

Parker Hoang – The ENIAC Six: How Six Women Programmers Shattered Technological Barriers and the Glass Ceiling. Parker is advancing to the actual National History Day national finals and will be representing Langley High School in the individual website category. The virtual contest is June 14-20 this year. Wish Parker well, he has a real chance of cutting down the nets.

  1. Third Place!

Isabel Mathew, Lauren Sung, and Amelia Kim -- “Vaccinating the World: The Effect of Edward Jenner's Smallpox Vaccine.” Isabel, Lauren, and Amelia also won the Virginia Museum of History and Culture Medical History Prize. Most impressive.

Last March (before March 13) 49 Langley students took the 2020 National Latin Exam. They were joined by 150,000 other students from all 50 states, DC and around the globe. The following students earned medals and certificates. Their medals and certificates will be delivered at a date to be announced by the National Junior Classical League in the near future. Congratulations to all.

Looking Forward to Sunnier Days We're planning to landscape Langley's main courtyard as soon as logistically possible. Just how gorgeous and green it will be depends upon how many donations are made. To help, donate a leaf to the Langley Legacy Tree, the beautiful wall sculpture that is “growing” in the Langley Lobby.  Another 40+ leaves and several birds were added to the tree right before the school closed.

Leaves make wonderful graduation gifts! About 100 of our seniors/soon-to-be grads already have a leaf inscribed in their honor. Leaves are also a great way to pay tribute to teachers, family and friends. Giving levels are copper leaf ($50), silver leaf ($100), gold leaf ($200), and acorn or bird ($500). With a $1,000+ donation, your family's name is included on the Courtyard Benefactor Plaque, which will be installed next to the Tree.

Click on ptsalangley.org to donate your tree leaves/acorns/birds.
