Dear Stenwood families,

We really enjoyed celebrating all of our teachers and staff this week!  Thank you to the PTA for organizing  such a fun week!  We loved the chalk drawings, kind emails, gift cards from the Wheel of Appreciation, and the sweet videos.  Everyone feels so loved this week!

As we mentioned last week, we are beginning to plan for next year (though we are uncertain what that will look like).  Please see the class placement section below.

We will be hosting a virtual coffee this coming Wednesday, May 13th from 8 - 9am.  This will be an informal time to check in, hear updates, and spend time with adults!  If you have a question, please complete this quick form.  This will help us group questions together and make sure we address topics that are of most interest to you.  If you have questions/concerns that are specific to your child or situation, we would be happy to schedule a one on one phone call with you.  We will be sending an enotify message on Tuesday, March 12th at 8am to our parent community with the link to this session.

We hope all of the Moms out there have a wonderful Mother’s Day!

Sincerely,

Erica Riley, Principal

Class Placements

If your child is definitely (or possibly!) returning to Stenwood next school year, we offer you the opportunity to share any comments you would like regarding class placements.

Our staff will be working on tentative class groupings this spring, with classroom assignments finalized in late August.  As we make these placements, we consider many factors including individual student information, teacher input, and social relationships.  Every class will have a blend of children with diverse needs, personalities, and learning interests.  Due to the many factors we must consider in creating classroom placements, including the reassignment of some teachers to a different grade level and the hiring of new teachers, requests for a specific teacher cannot be honored.

If you have information that you believe is pertinent to your child’s placement for next year, please complete this form online by Monday, May 18th for it to be taken into consideration. Thank you.

Virtual Coffee with Mrs. Riley and Dr. Mitchell

Coffee

Mark your calendars for Wednesday, May 13th from 8:00 - 9:00am for an opportunity to check in, hear updates, and spend time with adults!  Hope to “see” you there!

Save the Date!  Online Book Fair Is Coming!

Bookworm Central

Starting May 11th and running through May 27th, our book fair vendor, Bookworm Central, will be opening its virtual warehouse doors for us to have a book fair.  If your children have read everything in your house and played every game you have, now is your chance to find great books and educational games to keep your kids excited about reading, learning and exploring (and with free shipping directly to your house on orders over $20).  Teachers will also be able to create a virtual wish list and purchased books will be delivered to the school in the fall.  Go to www.bookwormcentral.com and enter our organization code: stenwood at the top – then feel free to shop! Handy tip: If you want to purchase something off the teacher wish list, we ask that you complete your home order first, then come back and create a second order for the teachers. This way the teacher books will be shipped to the school. Let Mrs. Cole know what questions you have: nhcole@fcps.edu.

*Please note, Bookworm Central is a local vendor that is intent on helping connect your children with great books.  Safety is paramount for their staff and for you.  At the warehouse, your orders are packed by team members practicing social distancing, always wearing gloves and masks, and continually disinfecting surface areas.

Third Quarter Grading Timeline

  • ParentVUE/StudentVUE access will be turned off to allow for teachers to enter grades from Thursday, April 23 through Friday, May 8. Grades will be available in ParentVUE/StudentVUE on Saturday, May 9.

Positivity Project: Leadership

This week we are focusing on Leadership. You value each member of your group and inspire other people to do their best.

“Leadership is practiced not so much in words as in attitude and actions.”

                                                                         ~Harold S. Geneen

Questions you might enjoy talking about:

  • What are some of the characteristics of a good leader?
  • Do you consider yourself a leader? If not, what are some characteristics that might make that more possible? If so, what are the characteristics of leadership you need to build on to make stronger?
  • How does it make you feel to think about yourself as a leader?

We'd Love More Photos!
