RCMS Staff Misses You!

2020-2021 Course Registration

for RCMS Students

Due to the school building closure we will be unable to mail out course requests letters to parents this school year. All Rising 8th grade students course selection process has been completed for next year.  Parents can review their child’s selections by logging into SIS ParentVUE and clicking “Course Requests” on the left.  While every effort is made to accommodate students’ elective choices, we cannot guarantee placement in any particular elective course until the student’s schedule is finalized in August. Some adjustments have already been made based on auditions, closed classes, required prerequisites, ESOL, and special education classes. Contact your child’s counselor for any questions. If you want to make a request to change, email Ms. Tawil Student Services Assistant at ajtawil@fcps.edu please do so no later than May 15, 2020. Also, your child's teachers are great resources if you have any questions regarding core subjects and/or intervention courses.

Student Services Updates

Our Student Services Department misses all our students and families every day. We are heartbroken and disappointed that the end of this school year will not be face to face as we would have wanted, but we are here to provide support for our students and families, nonetheless. We understand this time is very stressful and confusing for all of us, but together we  can get through this challenging time. We are still here to support you and your students. Rachel Carson Student Services Team will be sharing activities, tips, and ideas that we hope you will incorporate into your weekly routines.  We have created our own Google site that students and parents have access to where we will post self-care tips, organization strategies, and other activities ranging from wellness to management.

3rd Quarter Grading Update

The School Board was briefed that no student work assigned after March 13 will be graded, at the recommendation of VDOE; however, work assigned prior to March 13 will still be accepted up until May 1 in order to be applied in the calculation of students’ third quarter grades. Additionally, it is the intention of FCPS to use maximum flexibility in assessing and evaluating student learning for the remainder of the school year.

ParentVUE/StudentVUE access will be turned off to allow for teachers to enter grades from Thursday, April 23 through Friday, May 8. Grades will be available in ParentVUE/StudentVUE on Saturday, May 9.

Report card mailings to all parents/guardians who have not opted into electronic delivery will begin on May 12, 2020.

FCPS Virtual After School Program

FCPS Middle School After-School has put together a number of virtual after-school activities to engage middle school students in the arts, music, STEM, physical fitness, cooking, games, puzzles, literature, and more – things students can do at home.

FCPS students can access these virtual after-school activities by joining the "FCPS MS After-School @ Home" Google Classroom.  The classroom code is: t673w7v.

Once your student has joined the classroom, there are a variety of activities (topics) they can choose from in the "Classwork" tab. We hope your students enjoy this site, and that it helps them actively pursue their interests during this time of social distancing. If you or your student have ideas for other activities, please email your After-School Program Specialist or use the "FCPS MS @ Home Interest Form" located on the classroom home page.

Be Safe! Be Active!  And know that we are here for you and your family!

Please check the RCMS After School website for after school club updates.
