Fairfax Villa Message to Parents on April 27

Good Afternoon Fairfax Villa Parents,

We were so excited to see so many of your children back and ready for learning today. It was wonderful to see their smiling faces again!

We wanted to give you a few tech tips on questions some of you have had.

  • Here is a quick reminder of how to get the links  from your student’s FCPS Google email:
    • Go to www.fcps.edu
    • Click on  G Suite at the top of the page.
    • Sign in by typing the student number in front of @fcpsschools.net
    • Click NEXT.
    • Type in student’s password.
    • Click on 9 dots in the upper right corner.
    • Click on the red M for Gmail.
    • Click on the email(s) from Blackboard Collaborate to  open them and  find the name of the session and the student’s link.
    • Copy and paste that link into Chrome.
    • Copy and paste each link into the Student Link Organizer.
    • When you click on your bookmark, it may show an image and message that says “Uh-oh! The link is no longer valid.” If you get this message, please click reconnect to get back into the live session with your class.
  • Here is a video that explains how to easily find your child’s FCPS gmail.  The “username” referred to there is the student number that students use to log into other applications such as Blackboard or myON.  When the narrator mentions the “waffle grid” that is what we sometimes refer to as the “9 dots.” The video has Spanish subtitles.
  • As you may have noticed, our sessions for teaching and office hours are “open” sessions which means that they could potentially be accessed at any time. However, all sessions with students  are set so that there can be no communication between students if they were to join the session outside of the times that the class is meeting.
  • Each session link is for just that student. The links may not be shared.
  • If you had more than one email about a session, that just means that the teacher resent the invitations.  The link for your child remains the same. Please copy and paste the link into the Student Link Organizer the teachers emailed to you on Friday. This will allow for you to make only one click to join the session each day versus logging into your child's Gmail each day.
  • If the audio/video on your personal device is not working, please check to see how you have it set up by going to the Control Panel on your family’s device. Also - many laptops have a toggle button on the top row of the keyboard that turns the microphone on and off. Be sure that it is toggled to be on.

Our best,
