Distance Learning Schedule

General Information

Distance Learning Updates

This week we are looking forward to resuming our normal distance learning schedule (above).  Last week our teachers worked within Blackboard Collaborate Ultra to secure this platform for all students.  Many teachers were able to successfully transition last week and held their classes as scheduled.  By tomorrow, the remaining classes will resume.

By the end of today, students should receive a personalized link for each class.  This invite will come through their fcpsschools.net accounts.  All invitation emails will be titled “Blackboard Collaborate Invitee.”  As a result, all invitations to classes may appear in one thread within a student’s email.  That will require them to scroll through the whole link to see all of their invitations.  Once a student has all of their links, they will remain the same for the duration of the year.

Students are encouraged to view this quick video tutorial to help prepare them for what this will look like from a student view. They can also follow this link for some images of what you will see when you log in. This information and more important tips were posted on the grade level google classroom sites on April 15.

  • Important resources regarding the distance learning plan can be found here.
  • All school closure resources for Oakton High School can be found here.
  • All school closure updates and resources for FCPS can be found here.
  • To better keep in touch with students during this time, information will routinely be posted on the Class level google classrooms.

ANNOUNCING….The Virtual ANGP Prize Raffle on May 8th, 2020

We have made the decision to cancel ANGP. We are certain the event would have been fantastic, and we share in the disappointment resulting from the necessity of its cancellation. Superintendent Brabrand and Principal Lane have stated that an in-person graduation will not be held on June 4 due to the Governor’s shut-down order.  If a later in-person graduation or an in-person celebration becomes possible, an event can be planned to allow our seniors to celebrate together. Certainly, the Class of 2020 will have a unique graduation story to tell through the years!

We are excited to announce our Virtual ANGP Prize Raffle for all the prizes we currently hold. This raffle is available to all Oakton High School seniors.

Raffle tickets are $5 for each senior who had not yet purchased an ANGP ticket. Each senior may only have one ticket, so everyone has one chance to win. Any family that purchased an ANGP ticket is receiving their one raffle ticket, so will not need to purchase one. Any family that purchased a sign and made an additional donation with the sign purchase, but did not purchase an ANGP ticket, will be issued a raffle ticket.

On May 8th we will raffle off the prizes from most expensive to least expensive. The exact time and virtual location of the drawing will be announced soon. Any prize that fits in an envelope will be mailed. Other prizes will have to be picked up from a designated home in a “contactless” pick up. Winners will be notified by email and requested to pick up the prize within one week. After one week, a reminder will be sent to those who have not picked up a prize. If a winner does not respond in the next seven days, the prize will be re-raffled.

Class of 2020 Yard Signs - PTSA

We hope that you all are getting through this crazy time with your senior(s) at home. You probably feel like we do, really bummed that our seniors don't get the traditional last few months of public school, where they can enjoy the camaraderie of making after-graduation decisions and dealing with the stresses of so many changes to come.

With so much uncertainty about pretty much everything, we thought we would remind you of your opportunity to celebrate your senior in a very basic, fun way. Our senior yard signs are still available and will be delivered straight to your front yard! Click the link below to purchase yours for $20. We have a limited quantity, so get yours today and don't miss out.
