KG Distance Learning Update 4.26

A Note from Administration

Dear Parents,

Thanks for your continued patience with our efforts with distance learning.  We also appreciate your work in supporting your child(ren) as you balance household responsibilities, work commitments and simply life!  As we approach yet one more week at home, please note that each family should find your own balance with schoolwork and other commitments. Note that our staff completely understands the challenges that this pandemic has brought to you and your family. Many of the teachers and staff are balancing the same challenges at home as well. If your child is stressed or your family cannot complete all the work, please just let the teacher know. We are here to support you.  That said, we are also ready to support the continued learning and will celebrate these moments!  See the picture and note below – it will warm your heart!

As communicated this week, our goal is to once again continue with live or virtual instruction this week such that the students can reconnect with the teachers and their peers.   We are hopeful that with the new BBCU link, we should be able to bring both routine and structure to your child’s day – and your day!

Our specialists will continue to have their links for learning available through the Blackboard Learning 24/7 Specialist button. They will have some ‘live’ classes as well as recorded classes. Note we are not able to replicate the school day, but your child may choose a special (live or recorded) that works for his/her schedule for that day. Our teachers will also have guests who join their morning meetings which will also give our specialists and other staff members an opportunity to join the morning meeting. Note that all teachers will have virtual office hours and students will be able to join as invited or as needed.

We will have a Parent Coffee on Tuesday, April 25th at 8 a.m. We will answer questions and respond to any concerns that you may have. The link is here for you to attend.

To our parents and teachers, thank you for your patience and supporting all the transitions to connect synchronously and provide instruction for our students.  Kent Gardens will be known for our strength as a community by staying positive as we lean in together and ask how we can support each other!  #kgpride #strongertogether #inspire

Warmly with fingers crossed,

Holly McGuigan

New BBCU log In for Distance Learning 3.0:

Kent Gardens STUDENTS should:

  • Check their Google fcpsschools.net account later today or tomorrow. They are looking for BBCU Invitee (Blackboard Collaborate Ultra) email(s) from their teacher, which contains a link to each class.  Here is a link on how students can check their fcpsschools gmail account. Students should not share links.
  • Watch this video of how to “star” the email for easy access in the future.

What do PARENTS need to do?

  • Help your child check their fcpsschools.net Google email later today or tomorrow morning.  They have gotten an email(s) from BBUC that contains a link they need to access their teacher’s live instruction. Here is a visual guide in a pdf to show how students can check their fcpsschools.net gmail account. Click here
  • Tell your child to ‘star’ and save the email as a favorite in case they need the link(s) later; forward that email to yourself so that you can find it as well.
  • Tell your child to go “in” to the classes at the correct times only. Tell them not to share their codes because if they do and that person logs in before they do, they will NOT be able to get into the classroom.

Positivity:  The character strength for the week of April 27th-May 1st is purpose and connection. This strength gives individuals the sense that they are connected with humanity or the universe. People who possess a sense of purpose believe that they were put on earth for a reason. That reason can have all kinds of variety. It could be to create a unique invention, to bring joy through art or music, or to raise their children to become good people.

Mental Health Resources:  Please visit the FCPS webpage for resources. Right now, there are many stressors and there are resources for support.
