Intentions for Next Year

If your child will NOT be attending Irving or his/her base high school next year, please complete the Intention Form linked below and return it to hbnguyen@fcps.edu to let us know where your child will be enrolled. If your child is going to Irving or his/her base high school, you don’t need to complete this form. If you find out later you will be moving, please contact Irving so we can update our database.

Many Digital Resources Available through Irving MS Library

Even though Irving’s library doors are closed right now, our students have open access to many great digital resources!  We’re excited to have added over fifty new ebooks to our collection just this week.  Irving students may access our ebook and audiobook collection by visiting Mackinvia.com   Below are the steps for logging in and borrowing materials:

  1. Go to Mackinvia.com
  2. Enter “Irving Middle School, FCPS” as our school name
  3. Click the blue “Login” button.  This takes you to another page.
  4. Click on the light-blue “Fairfax County Public Schools” button that appears on the left-hand side.
  5. Enter your FCPS username and password
  6. Browse titles.  If you want, use the search box in the upper right-hand corner to look for titles.
  7. You may choose ebooks or audiobooks.
  8. If books are already checked out, they have the word “Out” written over the book’s cover.
  9. Hovering over the book cover will give you options for finding out more information on the book, listening to it, or checking it out.  When you check it out, it is reserved for you and in your “backpack” for a period of three weeks.
  10. To read or listen to your checked out items, you access them through Mackinvia.com

The library also is the gateway for your students to access FCPS database resources.  These may be helpful if your student is researching for a class project.  All of these resources can be reached by visiting the library’s Blackboard 24/7 page.  If students log into Blackboard and click on “Courses,” they will find a course called “Library.”  It is here that they can easily reach all database links.  Additionally, Mrs. Gawalt and Ms. Monk will be available for live office hour sessions via Blackboard Collaborate Ultra on Tuesdays and Thursdays.  Going through Blackboard 24/7 is still the only way for all students to access librarians’ office hours.

As always, we enjoy working with your students and are happy to try to help them.

Mary Ann Monk (mamonk1@fcps.edu) and Diane Gawalt (dlgawalt@fcps.edu)
