Third Quarter Grading Updates

Due to last week’s pause in teacher-led “live” instruction, the third quarter has been extended until Friday, May 1, 2020. Students will work with their teachers to make up third quarter missing/incomplete assignments and complete reassessments by May 1, 2020.

ParentVUE/StudentVUE access will be turned off to allow for teachers to enter grades from Friday, May 1 through Friday, May 8. Grades will be available in ParentVUE/StudentVUE on Saturday, May 9.

Report card mailings will begin on May 12, 2020 to elementary school level parents and/or guardians.

Parents and/or guardians at the elementary school level do not have the “Go Paperless” option this school year. If they have secondary students, they may opt to “Go Paperless” to discontinue printed secondary level report cards but they will still receive printed ES Progress Reports for their elementary students this school year. We anticipate releasing the paperless option to elementary school students in school year 20/21.

Student Support During School Closure

Hello Hawk families,

The student support team wants you to know that we miss you and we are here for you! We know how challenging this time is for our students and parents so we wanted to offer some resources to help during this time. We have also added some activities and resources on the Blackboard site under the tab labeled “Student Support”. You will see there are folders for students in K-2, 3-6, and parent resources and we will continuously update the folders. We have also included some essential information below so that you can have it all in one spot.

  • FCPS is offering Mental Wellness Consultations to provide guidance for parents and support for students who may be experiencing difficulties with anxiety, mood, behavior, or peer or family interactions during this unprecedented and challenging time, and to connect parents and students with available community resources. Upon submitting this form, a school psychologist or school social worker will reach out to you to schedule a phone consultation. PLEASE NOTE THAT PARENT CONSULTATIONS ARE AVAILABLE FOR ALL GRADE LEVELS AND STUDENT CONSULTATIONS ARE ONLY AVAILABLE FOR STUDENTS IN MIDDLE OR HIGH SCHOOL. However, if your student is having a difficult time, please reach out to a member of the student support team so we can schedule a check in and provide resources. https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeFLnv14CZ1Pga7QpeDpxXpKNVM4U8YvJdS08XL9yKEk7fJtA/viewform

Month of the Military Child Spirit Week

In celebration of the Month of the Military Child we want to honor our military students and your dedication to our country. We would like to create a slideshow to honor our military families and post it to our website.  Military students – create a sign with a message about what it means to be part of the military. In addition, we will have a virtual spirit week starting Monday, April 27 – Thursday, April 30.

  • Monday will be Uniform Day – parents wear your military uniform and your child will wear purple.
  • Tuesday will be Proud to be an American – wear red, white and blue.
  • Wednesday will be Purple Up Day – wear purple.
  • Thursday will be Camo Day – wear your camouflage clothes.

Please take a photo (jpeg format please) of your messages and spirit wear and send to Lisa Warden, lbwarden@fcps.edu

We are so pleased to celebrate you!

From Our Parent Liaison

Given the community spread of COVID-19 occurring in Fairfax, the Health Department cannot complete contact investigations on all COVID-19 cases. Therefore, the Department has developed a toolkit for people to use to prevent the spread of the disease as well as how to communicate with your contacts about it.

Toolkit Site: https://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/health/novel-coronavirus/toolkit-slow-spread

You can easily change the language of the page by choosing a language near the top and can find copies of the toolkit to download in seven languages by scrolling down.

The three primary sites that you can use to find information about COVID-19 are below. In each, one can easily access many more resources and information.

Neighborhood Health – All locations providing services. Services have transitioned to telehealth visits. Call 703-535-5568 prior to accessing services so patients can be screened over the phone. COVID-19 Updates at http://neighborhoodhealthva.org/patients-service-changes/
