Dear Beech Tree Parents,
This week, schools were given the option of using Blackboard Collaborate Ultra or Google Meets, to provide synchronous, live, face-to-face, instruction. Our School Based Technology Specialist and I attended training on Tuesday afternoon to be able to weigh the pros and cons of both. I decided to have our staff receive training on both platforms so that they could make the most informed decision for their team. I was prepared to tell you that each team, might be using a different platform because I chose to put our TEACHERS FIRST, after all the work they’ve put into trainings and trying to get virtual instruction up and running. You should know that they chose to put YOU FIRST. Throughout all their trainings, they tried to look at things through the lens of a parent. Either platform did require a reconfiguration of courses, for both access and security reasons. With all this in mind, our teams have selected to provide instruction through the following means:
- Preschool: Google Meets with Parents & Child
- Kindergarten: Blackboard Collaborate Ultra & prerecorded on Blackboard 24/7
- 1st Grade: Blackboard Collaborate Ultra & prerecorded on Blackboard 24/7
- 2nd Grade: Blackboard Collaborate Ultra & prerecorded on Blackboard 24/7
- 3rd Grade: Blackboard Collaborate Ultra & assignments on Google Classroom
- 4th Grade: Blackboard Collaborate Ultra & assignments on Google Classroom
- 5th Grade: Blackboard Collaborate Ultra & assignments on Google Classroom
- ESOL: Blackboard Collaborate Ultra & assignments on Google Classroom
- Specialists & School Counselor: Blackboard Collaborate Ultra
- Special Education: By almost any means necessary - except in person or via nonapproved sites 😉

Specialists might take a little longer to finish adding each Beech Tree student to their sessions, so their links may take a little longer to create and be sent to you.
