New Student Enrollment Process During COVID-19

KR

Kindergarten

Betty Nolan, the Lees Corner registrar, is currently reaching out by email or phone to the families who previously contacted her about registering their children who will turn 5 years old by September 30, 2020 for kindergarten. Registration packets were mailed in March to those on the list. If you have the capability, please scan and email the completed registration forms and birth certificate to Mrs. Nolan at blnolan@fcps.edu. She will use them to do a preliminary registration. All original forms along with other supporting documents must be presented at a later date when the schools are open to the public. If you are not able to scan the forms Mrs. Nolan will schedule a phone interview. Please email Mrs. Nolan if you did not receive a registration packet in the mail or leave a message at 703-227-3519.

Enrollment forms can be found at this link:

New Students in Grades 1-6

Please email Betty Nolan, the Lees Corner registrar, at blnolan@fcps.edu for information about preliminary enrollments for new student enrollments in grades 1-6.

Updated Third Quarter Grading Timeline

Due to last week’s pause in teacher-led “live” instruction, the third quarter has been extended until Friday, May 1, 2020. Students will work with their teachers to make up third quarter missing/incomplete assignments and complete reassessments by May 1, 2020.

ParentVUE/StudentVUE access will be turned off to allow for teachers to enter grades from Thursday, April 23 through Friday, May 8. Grades will be available in ParentVUE/StudentVUE on Saturday, May 9, 2020.

Parents and/or guardians at the ES level do not have the “Go Paperless” option this school year. If they have secondary students, they may opt to “Go Paperless” to discontinue printed secondary level report cards but they will still receive printed ES Progress Reports for their ES students this school year. We anticipate releasing the paperless option to ES in SY 20/21.

We anticipate the printed report cards will be provided to the postal service by May 23. Actual delivery to homes will vary. School addresses will be used as the return address on the report cards.

Fourth Quarter Grades

No fourth quarter grades will be assigned to elementary students due to equity issues of access to technology and limited student ability to submit work during distance learning.

Live Lessons Login Information

New login procedure allows students to log on directly to Blackboard Collaborate Ultra (BbCU) without needing to go through Blackboard Learn (24-7). Below is the information that you will need to begin live instruction.

  • Your child will receive one or more emails with personalized BbCU links based on the number of sessions to which they are invited.
  • Email(s) will be found in their fcpsschools.net Gmail account and will come from Blackboard Collaborate Support.
  • DO NOT DELETE THESE EMAILS FROM BLACKBOARD COLLABORATE SUPPORT! You may need to refer to them later if there is a problem.
  • Directions to access these BbCU links in your child’s email can be seen in THIS VIDEO.
  • Remember that you should NEVER share these personalized links with anyone. Personalized links show students’ first and last names. They become part of your child’s digital footprint.
  • To help keep track of the different invitation links you can:
    • bookmark the links using Steps 6-11 of the attached document. Be sure to save the emails from BbCU Support.
    • create a desktop shortcut for each session to which they are invited. After opening the invitation email:
    1. Right Click on the invitation link.
    2. Select “Copy Link Address”.
    3. Place your arrow on your Desktop.
    4. Right Click.
    5. Select “New”.
    6. Select “Shortcut”.
    7. Select “Paste”.
    8. Then rename the link to match the session title seen the invitation email.

If your child does not receive an email in their fcpsschools.net Gmail account with a session link by noon on Sunday, April 26, 2020, please email your child’s teacher.
