Stenwood Hive Happenings

Hive Happenings Newsletter

Dear Stenwood families:

Wow, this week has been filled with highs and lows! Our staff is thrilled that the trial run for synchronous instruction worked out beautifully yesterday.  We saw many smiling faces online and look forward to establishing a consistent routine in the weeks to come.  We hope to continue to see many of you “live” during our synchronous learning times, but remember that all recorded sessions will be available asynchronously and provided to you by your child’s teacher if your family needs to access this instruction at a time that better suits your schedule.  We know so many of you, including ourselves and staff, are balancing work and home simultaneously right now and hope you will find the right timing and balance for engagement in the provided learning activities.

You may have noticed that we have shifted from our usual Wednesday Hive Happenings to Friday.  Our goal is to provide some consistency with communication and also provide you time over the weekend to process any information as you prepare for the next week.  As long as information is not immediately time sensitive, we will communicate with you on Fridays and our teachers will post instruction by 7pm the night before, in order to support the needs of our families.

While all of us continue adjusting to our new norm, thank you for keeping grace and understanding at the forefront.  Our Stenwood community is experiencing a full spectrum of needs right now, and know that we will do our best to support you all however we can.  In this line of thinking, there are some information and action items listed below as we look to the months ahead, but attend to what you can and are able to right now.  We will do our best to keep you aware of the most pertinent and urgent information.

Mrs. Hunt is already working on registrations for next year, so if you already know you will be moving over the summer or have neighbors with rising kindergartners, please have them reach out to her: snhunt@fcps.edu.

Have a restful weekend!  We look forward to seeing everyone on Monday!

Sincerely,

Erica Riley, Principal

How to Talk to your Child about COVID-19

It is important that you have conversations with your children about why they are out of school, and that everyone is doing their best to make sure that they are safe and healthy. As you begin to plan these conversations consider reading Talking to Children about COVID-19.

Positivity Project: Appreciation of Beauty and Excellence

This week we are focusing on the Appreciation of Beauty and Excellence. You notice and value the world’s beauty and people’s skills. You don’t take things for granted.

“Better to be blind and see with your heart than to have two good eyes and see nothing.”

                                                                  ~Helen Keller

Questions you might enjoy talking about:

  • What do you think it means to see with your heart?
  • Why do you think we fail to notice the beauty around us?
  • What can you do to start noticing that beauty?

 Moving Over the Summer?

If your family is moving over the summer or will not be attending Stenwood next year, please contact our registrar, Sonja Hunt at snhunt@fcps.edu. Thank you!
