Update on Distance Learning

Dear Westbriar Families,

We had a great kick off to distance learning yesterday. Our teachers were so happy to reconnect with students and I know students felt the same. I know today was hard when live sessions were canceled.  I wanted you to know that yesterday, there were reports of security breaches in virtual accounts amongst our secondary schools that caused the immediate need to tighten security. Those security breaches resulted in my decision to cancel live classes in order to address security concerns before continuing with distance learning for our students.

We held our staff meeting this morning to review the updated secure measures needed for Blackboard Collaborate Ultra courses.  Teachers will no longer be sending you an email with a link to access the virtual sessions. Instead, students will gain access directly through their Blackboard 24/7 course at https://fcps.blackboard.com/webapps/login/. Students are responsible for logging into their specific grade level, teacher session using his/her student login.  Only one login is permitted per user.  If your child does not remember their password, please contact your child's teacher.

This afternoon, teachers will be sending emails to parents with specific login directions for your child to access Collaborate Ultra sessions starting tomorrow, April 16th.  Please contact your child’s teacher if you have not yet received those specific login directions.  Please be reminded that students may continue to work on their learning packets and other teacher generated learning materials whenever we experience technical issues for login.

Thanks again for your patience and support today as teachers worked on creating a safe online learning environment for your child.

Take care,

Principal Tam
