Good Morning West Potomac Community--
As you may have read in the letter sent last night from FCPS leadership, there were issues with security/control of the Blackboard Collaborate session links. FCPS IT turned on a component of collaborate late yesterday evening that will add the necessary security and controls. The new process will allow teachers to build individual class sessions that must be accessed via their FCPS blackboard log in. Students will automatically log in to sessions that will display their names as they are found in the SIS class lists. The links for the sessions are not shareable and will not allow access to anyone but the students in the class.
Unfortunately the lack of timeliness in opening this component in blackboard requires teachers to be trained on how to set up the new sessions today to be prepared for Thursday virtual classes. So for today, office hours will not be live/virtual. If students have questions for their teachers, they will need to email them directly. Teachers will do their best to respond today given the constraints of training and setting up the new sessions.
Teachers will communicate directly to their students once the new links are created. Communications will be posted in google classroom and on their class blackboard sites.
Also as a result, the principal virtual coffees I planned for today will be postponed and I will communicate new dates and times soon.
