Grading and Attendance Updates

Dear TJ Families:

Today we welcomed back our faculty and staff to Virtual TJHSST!  Our amazing teachers have spent the past couple weeks preparing learning activities aligned with our Distance Learning Plan which includes dedicated class times and office hours. Our counselors also will communicate their plans to students.

Thanks to all our parents and guardians for being partners with our Distance Learning Plan. Time management will be important and today we shared a Distance Learning planning template with students. At first, it may seem overwhelming for your child to see all the posts and directions coming from teachers. Relax. There will be plenty of time each Monday, Wednesday and Friday to organize the work. Remember to reach out to teachers, counselors and administrators with concerns, questions, or just a request for help.

Also, you most likely have had many questions about grading and attendance for the rest of the year. FCPS has given final guidance on how fourth term grades and final grades will be calculated. Also, FCPS has asked teachers to enter attendance in SIS. You may view a detailed video presentation made for TJ students, explaining fourth term and final grade calculations, as well as attendance procedures for the remainder of the year. We must remember learning has been disrupted. During this imperfect time in our world, not all the FCPS solutions will feel perfect for every student, but all of us are doing our best to ensure decisions are benefitting students.

Thank you for your patience as we have been preparing for fourth term and the rest of the year. There are still some unanswered questions such as when we can go back into the building to retrieve items or when graduation and other events can occur for the Class of 2020. We will continue to keep you updated as information becomes available. Also, FCPS has created a Parent Resource Center with current information and materials.

Most of all, stay healthy and fulfilled. Continue to eat well, wash hands, practice physical distancing and avoid crowds. Exercise each day and make time for family and hobbies. Our families are special to us and we care about you.

We’re here for you each step of the way. We’re TJ. We got this!

Be well- mind, body and spirit.
