Families in need of assistance of any kind should contact CSP, open 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. You may experience long wait times during this crisis, but CSP is still operating and can assist in a variety of languages.
Temporary Eviction Protection
For families dealing with possible evictions, know your rights! According to the Fairfax County Sheriff’s Office, evictions are paused at this point during the Covid-19 crisis. Efforts are underway at the national and state level to protect homeowners who cannot make mortgage payments due to the Covid-19 crisis. According to BankRate.com, “Virginia officials urge mortgage holders and servicers to offer hardship forbearances and refrain from credit reporting.” Borrowers are encouraged to discuss their situation with their lenders.

UNEMPLOYMENT INSURANCE:
The Virginia Employment Commission website (http://www.vec.virginia.gov/covid19) offers resources for people whose jobs have been harmed by the crisis, including those who are self-employed, independent contractors, nonprofit employees, and gig-economy workers, or are requesting an extension of benefits. For those claiming unemployment, VEC recommends making an initial claim for unemployment insurance and filing weekly claims on Sunday, Monday, or Tuesday of each week if you remain unemployed and want to be paid for the prior week. You can do so at 1-800-897-5630 and can also find more information at their website.
