Reminder

FCPS Distance Learning for students begins on Tuesday, April 14, 2020

Hello Crossfield Community!

Distance learning for FCPS students will begin on Tuesday, April 14 and will run Monday-Friday (except Monday, April 13) for the rest of the school year. The Crossfield general education teacher schedule is below:

Preschool: 9:30am [teachers will contact parents regarding days]

Kindergarten: 8:30am-9:30am

First Grade: 9:30-10:00 am & 1:15-1:45 pm

Second Grade: 10:00am-11:00 am

Third Grade: 1:00pm-2:00pm

Fourth Grade: 10:30am-11:30am

Fifth Grade: 11:00am-12:00pm

Sixth Grade: 11:30am-12:30pm

  • Hourly instructional times, Monday-Thursday, will primarily take place on Blackboard Collaborate. You will be provided links to the online classroom from your teacher. Blackboard Collaborate is an online video-conferencing platform that allows for live video, voice, and text-chat communication. These sessions will be recorded!
  • We understand that the schedule listed above may not be ideal for every family. Students and parents will have access to the recorded sessions a few hours after each lesson on FCPS 24/7.
  • Feedback regarding scheduling of the grade level times can be directed to Principal Granieri at mtgranieri@fcps.edu. Please do not contact your teacher regarding an adjustment of instructional times.
  • Teachers will also have office hours daily, M-Th. These times vary by teacher and they will be posting these times to their FCPS 24/7 courses.
  • Office hours are designed to be a time for teachers to utilize online platforms such as email, Google Classroom, and Blackboard Collaborate  to answer academic questions, provide guidance in learning, and give feedback. The teacher will be available for the entire class at these times. If you require a parent-teacher conference, please email your teacher and they can set up a meeting at a different time than office hours.

Learning Resources

The hourly instructional times are supplemented by other learning resources:

  1. FCPS 24/7: General Education teachers and specialists may post learning activities here. General Education teachers have one class on this site. Our specialists at Crossfield have a combined class on this site.
  2. FCPS also has a Continuity of Learning section on FCPS 24/7 where you an access the grade level learning packets in digital form. We understand that there may have been delays in the first week of packets being mailed home. This is an FCPS centralized process using your student’s address in our Student Information System. Crossfield does not mail the packets. We anticipate these delays will be mitigated in the future.
  3. Channel 21: Channel 21 features elementary age programming that may supplement teacher instruction. The programming schedule is listed on the linked page.

As we enter these unchartered waters, please consider that staying safe and maintaining physical and emotional health are of primary importance for us. There are diverse opinions about how much academic work we should be extracting from our students during this time. Learning takes many forms, and our children will look to us to take note of our actions and attitudes during this time. Please stay positive and stay safe.

WE MISS YOU - please stay safe and healthy

Spring break 1

Spring break 2

Looks like spring break was a busy time for Crossfield students and staff! Even though we all spent a lot of time inside and practiced our social distancing outside, there were many opportunities to read, do some art projects, think of fun ways to exercise and even help our pets improve their reading skills!

Don't forget to send a photo of your Rocket or Rocket family to bdfant@fcps.edu to be included in a future News You Choose.

Stay safe, stay well…we look forward to meeting you in the halls of Crossfield again.
