News You Choose- Tuesday, March 24, 2020 - Principal's Message

Good Evening Wolverines!

By now you have all heard the disappointing news that we will not be returning to West Po for the remainder of the school year.  This decision while completely understood and necessary, is a tough one to take.  We all miss you very much.

I know there are many unanswered questions but I want to continue to reach out and let you know where we are with next steps.

    • FCPS Leadership is reviewing guidance handed down from the Governor and VDOE as to how we are to proceed with continuation of learning
    • The distance learning plan is being finalized with the new guidance from VDOE in a few days
    • Grading and Reporting plans will also be forthcoming and dictated by VDOE
    • College Board emailed AP students directly with online resources and their plans for online testing all who were registered to test.  The actual testing calendar will be released on April 3rd.  SATs have been cancelled through May 2nd.
    • All FCPS sponsored activities and athletics are cancelled through June 30th that includes prom.

In the meantime, your teachers will begin to reach out to all of you  and continue to do so to insure that you are completing all of your make up work from 3rd quarter up to the day of closure 3/13.  They will also continue to offer review materials for any concepts, skills, knowledge from the beginning of the school year through 3/13.  Again, the instruction plan for distance learning is coming soon!

Class of 2020

I really struggle to find the words. I am so sorry that your senior year has evolved the way that it has, but I remain thankful for all of you and thankful for your safety and health. I still have hope and some good news.  Graduation ceremony has not been cancelled at this time.  FCPS is still looking into options with the Health Department’s guidance.

The Virginia Superintendent of Public Instruction, James Lane announced today that high school seniors who were on track to earn a diploma later this spring will be able to graduate.

High school seniors in the following categories will be able to graduate on time:

  • Seniors currently enrolled in a course for which they need a standard or verified credit in order to graduate (verified credits are earned by passing a required course and also passing the associated Standards of Learning test);
  • Seniors who have successfully completed a course required for graduation, but have not earned the associated verified credit;
  • Seniors who have not passed a required student-selected SOL test;

Flexibility also is available for seniors who have not earned a required career and technical education credential, seniors who have not completed a fine or performing arts course or CTE course, seniors who were unable to complete sequential course requirements, and seniors who have not completed a course in economics and personal finance.

Please continue to stay home as much as you can, practice social distancing if you must go out, take care of yourselves!

Until our next correspondence,

Ms. Millard
