Principal's Message

Dear Parents,

How was your week? I played a lot more trucks and managed to get in a couple of short walks. I still have some other areas to improve on like cooking! I believe that being a working parent with children at home is an almost unmanageable task. And, there are times when I look at my son and think how lucky I am to get this time with him. I remember when I was on leave after Cooper’s adoption thinking that I would never get three months at home with my son again! So, as hard as it is, I try to remember to take in all the good that can come from this time at home. We are all still adjusting to our new normal and soon, your routines will slightly change when our Distant Learning Plan goes into place on April 14, 2020. Our staff is excited to be back in their element and at the same time a bit anxious about new expectations, new technology and working from home as mothers and fathers. Please offer our staff some GRACE as we move into this next chapter. Just as I spoke last week about realistic expectations for each of us, we must remember that distant learning will not replace what we would have done inside the walls of Oak Hill. We will do our best to teach essential knowledge and foster relationships with each other.

To let you all know we are thinking of YOU and that we are hopeful for our days ahead, we created a slideshow, Because We Care. I hope you will take a look at over 63 staff members 3 words to you and your family. It is pretty special! Please see the calendar below for a virtual spirit week and send pictures to our new email address oakhillesmedia@gmail.com.  We would love to feature student faces in upcoming News You Choose as a way to connect to our community.

Hoping for your continued health,

Holly DeVore, Principal

Family Services Assistance

FCPS Grab & Go Lunches

As the coronavirus (COVID-19) public health emergency continues to evolve, we understand that individuals and families in our communities may have food assistance needs.

Fairfax County and Fairfax County Public Schools have worked together to develop a searchable map that includes community food distribution sites, including FCPS grab and go locations, community meal distribution sites, food pantries, and other related services.  Please click here to view the map.

FCPS is committed to providing information to assist families that rely on free and reduced priced school meals and is providing grab and go meals at no cost for students as several sites throughout the county. FCPS students are welcome to come to any of the sites to pick up a meal during these time periods.

All FCPS students (regardless of age) are eligible for free grab and go breakfast and lunch. Other county children, under the age of 18, can also receive a meal. Adults may pay $2 for the meals as well. In order to receive federal reimbursement, students must be present to request the meals.

FCPS is providing grab and go meals at several schools and community centers, including pop-up locations, and along several bus routes throughout the county. The FCPS sites, locations, bus routes, and curbside service are available Monday-Friday only.  Please click here for further details.
