Wise Words 3/23

Dear Shrevewood Family,

I know many of you watched the news conference as Governor Northam announced that our schools would be closed for the remainder of this school year.  My heart is heavy at the thought of such an extended time away from this community.  I am at a loss for words to comfort you, yet please know that we are still highly committed to our work as educators and we are diligently working on the next steps to be ready for distance learning.

Please offer us your patience and understanding as we, like each of you, navigate uncharted waters.  In the upcoming days, we will start a new chapter in public education together as a professional learning community.  There will be a big learning curve that we will navigate together!

As we embark on this new "remote learning" mission, I am asking you to share with our teachers the gift of patience and understanding. Our staff have had very little time to prepare, yet they are professionals who are adjusting, adapting and learning to do whatever is necessary to create meaningful learning experiences for our children. As you know, learners need to feel comfortable taking risks as they try out new skills.  Our teachers work diligently to create a classroom environment that supports students as they take risks with their new learning.

We love our children and we are ready for this challenge.  We will be bringing our absolute best and we will all learn so much together through this new challenge.

Take care and know that I am working to support our students, staff, and community.  Feel free to email me with any questions you may have. And remember, Shrevewood is about Family, Excellence, and Relationships!

Sincerely,

Joshua DeSmyter
