LJMS Update for Wed. March 18th

Jackson Families,

In providing you with the most updated information and resources, please take a moment to read this message. At Luther Jackson MS, we know this is a challenging time and many questions do not yet have clear answers. Continue to check the FCPS and LJMS websites for links and specific details regarding school closure. I also have included a couple of self-directed learning links available to support your student in their "Continuation of Learning." As you may recall, FCPS has implemented independent learning activities for all students that are self-directed and self-guided. I encourage all families and students to access these activities as a way to stay connected to their learning.

**Please know our teachers care and want to support their students, but at this time we are following the FCPS directive of refraining from planning or delivering instruction. Discussions around grades are valid and extremely important. However, as we have yet had guidance from FCPS regarding grades, we ask for continued patience as more details are provided.**

As always, please let me know if you have any questions and know that we will get through this.

From Dr. Brabrand: "We have made plans to provide continuity of learning during this break. Our goal is for students to continue to engage in learning activities.  The first two weeks of school closure (from Monday, March 16 to Friday, March 27) will not include any teacher-directed instruction.  Students can participate in optional, self-directed learning activities that have been posted on FCPS 24-7 Learning (Blackboard) and are available at www.fcps.edu.   Again, these activities are not required, nor graded.

We are all in this together.   We encourage you to practice social distancing and healthy habits.   Wash your hands frequently, cough into your sleeve, and if you feel sick – stay home.  Thank you for your continuing support and cooperation."

How to Talk to Your Child About COVID-19

It is important that you have conversations with your children about why they are out of school, and that everyone is doing their best to make sure that they are safe and healthy. As you begin to plan these conversations consider reading Talking to Children about COVID-19

ParentVue Accounts

This weekend, you should receive an email from FCPS if you do not already have a ParentVue account. We implore you to please sign-up for an account. A ParentVue account makes it possible for parents to access the FCPS 24-7 (Blackboard) portal. If you already have an account, you can log-in here. This is where several of the resources for students will be located in the coming weeks. If you need help setting up your account, please call. We will happily walk you through the process.

Cable Channels – Continuity of Learning

FCPS is currently creating instructional learning programs that will air on your local cable channel. Finally, a time when we suggest you let your kids watch TV!

Additional instructional videos are being developed/recorded and will be added into the lineup as they are available.  Please check this week for programs that will benefit your children at home.
