Lees Corner Updates-3/14/2020

Dear Lees Corner Families,

Thank you for your patience and flexibility throughout this week as we all responded to the closing of schools beginning on Friday, March 13th.

As you know, the Virginia Department of Education has recommended that all school systems provide continuity of learning programming during school closure.  At this time, FCPS has developed digital and online resources for our students.  Blackboard will be the primary website for families to access these materials. This work will not be required nor graded. Additionally, FCPS cable channels with learning activities are now available. New instructional videos are currently being developed and recorded and will be added to the programming shortly. Channel 21 includes elementary school programming. This content is also available online at www.fcps.edu. Click HERE to see the FCPS Cable TV Guide.

Your words of support and offers to help our school and other members of the community are so very encouraging! The Lees Corner Community is truly a very special place to live, work, grow, and learn. It is that energy and positivity that allows us to make magic happen in our school.

We hope you and your loved ones remain safe and healthy!

Sincerely,

VaRonica Sloan, Principal

Laura Tapper, Assistant Principal

Laptop Distribution

On Monday, at Lees Corner, we will be distributing laptops to students in grades 3-6, if you need access to this device at home. Lees Corner will be distributing to students between 12:00p.m.-2:30p.m. You may come anytime during this window of time. Note that you must attend with your student to sign our parent consent form that allows us to assign a device to your student. We will also work with your student while on-site to make sure that they can log into the device before you leave.  A few things to understand about the process on Monday:

  • You can opt to keep your student’s device at school, if they already have access to another computer or tablet at home.
  • The laptop will need to be returned to the school as soon as school resumes.
  • If you do not have internet access at home, while you are picking up a laptop, you may fill out the parent permission form for a MiFi wireless internet device. These MiFis will not be available for pickup on Monday, however we will put your request in the queue and let you know if a device is available for pickup at a later date.

In order to help us plan for the number of 3rd thru 6th grade students that will be picking up laptops we ask that you complete the following LCES Laptop Pick RSVP - March 16, 2020 form.  Please follow the distribution schedule of 12p.m.-2:30p.m., as we are operating with a limited number of staff members. Thank you for your patience and support of our efforts to provide an equitable experience for our students.

If you do not have a Student Information System (SIS) Parent account, you can register for an account online. An activation key will be sent to you to complete your registration, along with the simple steps to set up your account. Your username and password for the Student Information System(SIS) and FCPS 24-7 Learning: Parent View will be the same.
