Glasgow Community Gazette - March 14

Glasgow Community:

We are living in a very fluid time and updates are coming regularly. I wanted to share information as it stands right now and please understand that it still might change. Here is what is current:

As you have heard, FCPS has made the decision to close schools for an extended period through April 10th for student and family safety, health, and well-being. Learning opportunities can be found in the superintendent’s message and will be updated by FCPS for the first two weeks of closure.

As we prepare for the extended closure due to the coronavirus, we are inviting families (if you wish) to come to Glasgow on Monday, March 16, 2020, between the hours of 12:00pm to 5:00pm to retrieve any learning materials that may have been left at school, check out a book from the library, pick up your instrument and/or pick up a computer if your family does not have one at home.

Like I said last week, for consistency and clarity in messaging, we will stay focused on what FCPS sends to families. This will eliminate multiple messages and will decrease chances of error or confusion. If there is information particularly unique to the entire Glasgow community, I will keep you informed.

We will get through this trying time together as one community. Please take care of yourself and your family.

As always, please continue to reach out with questions you may have and/or support you may need.

Important Dates

Glasgow Middle School will be open on Monday, March 16, from 12:00pm to 5:00pm to retrieve any learning materials or belongings that may have been left at school.  In addition, students can also do the following:

Laptops - In preparation for the long-term school closure, we want to ensure that families have technology access at home.  We have a limited number of laptops available to our students and they are intended only for those students who have no other means to access learning resources from home. Please do not take a laptop if your student already has access to a computer or tablet at home. Laptops will be distributed at Glasgow on Monday, March 16th, from 12:00pm - 5:00pm in the lecture hall. Parents of students must come in to sign for the laptops.

Library - The library will be open for check-out on Monday, March 16 from 12:00pm to 5:00pm. Come and borrow some books for this extended break.

Instrument Pick-Up - The Band and Orchestra rooms will be open from 12:00pm - 5:00pm to pick up instruments so that students can continue to practice over the extended break.

Wifi Access - Information regarding the process for requesting portable wireless devices (MiFi’s) will also be available on Monday. Mifi’s will be reserved for families that do not have WiFi in the home. These resources are extremely limited and there is a wait for them as they will be distributed from the county stock.
